Kroger Mastercard $.55/gallon or $1.55/gallon Discount Signup Bonus For One Year

Kroger Mastercard is offering a new signup bonus for gas saving during the first year of card membership. There are various signup offers.

The Offer

Kroger Offer | Fred Meyer Offer

  • Save an additional 55¢ per gallon of fuel each time you redeem at least 100 fuel points at Kroger Fuel Centers for the first year.
  • Fred Myers credit card is offering savings of up to $1.55 per gallon during the first year each time you redeem up to 1,000 fuel points at Fred Meyer and Kroger Family of Companies Fuel Centers.

Other offers:

  • The regular signup bonus on this card is $100 after $500 spend, and some of the Kroger brands are still showing that bonus instead of the $.55/gallon bonus.
  • In the past we’ve seen a signup bonus as high as $150.
  • You can see a list of signup links to the various Kroger brand credit cards in this Reddit post.

The Fine Print

    • Offer applies to new cardmembers only who apply by September 1, 2022.
    • Discount is available at Kroger Family of Companies Fuel Centers each time you redeem at least 100 existing fuel points earned in a single month.
    • You must scan, redeem fuel points and pay with your Kroger Family of Companies Rewards World Elite Mastercard® in order to receive the fuel discount.
    • The first-year additional 55¢ discount offer expires one year from the cardmember’s approval date and does not require a spend minimum.
    • However, if you spend at least $6,000 on net eligible purchases during the first 12 months that your Account is open, once the additional 55¢ discount has expired, you will receive a 25¢ discount for the remainder of that calendar year and for the entirety of the next calendar year, ending the following January 31.   After that, eligibility is determined on a calendar year basis.  If you spend at least $6,000 on purchases in a calendar year, you get the 25¢ discount for the remainder of that calendar year (starting the month after you met the minimum spend requirement) and for the entirety of the next calendar year, ending the following January 31.

Our Verdict

I have a difficult time analyzing the value of these offers. Hopefully someone more used to the Kroger fuel points system will chime in with their thoughts.

  • The 55c bonus is active right now. I don't know when it was reactivated, but I just clicked the link and saw that it was.

  • i was getting 55cent a gallon discount until Sept 1, 2023 then nothing. I was wondering what I had to do to start getting the 55 cents again

  • Is this the correct procedure ????

So, when the pump asks if you are a Kroger rewards/loyalty member you have to -

    1. scan the back of your Kroger Mastercard NOT your Kroger Plus card.
    2. Then for method of payment - insert Kroger Mastercard.
    3. When it asks how many points you want to redeem - you enter 100 or $1.00 off
Will it automatically add the additional .55 cents off?????

  • I used this card for a year and loved it. It saved my family anywhere from $22.75 to $54.25, depending on how many points were used. It came in handy on a recent road trip with a motorhome (cut the price of gas from $3.78 to $2.23 per gallon).

  • Doesn’t this imply you have to spend $100 at Kroger first to receive the 100 fuel points, then you can take the .55c off per gallon? Am I understanding this correctly?

    • You can do that, or just buy a $25 target e-giftcard on days when they have 4X fuel rewards promo, which is a few times a month and clearly posted on their web site and ad. In store they also have physical amazon gift cards that qualify for 4X rewards. I buy a $250 gift card which gets 1,000 points ($1.00/gallon discount) and fill up both cars and a couple portable containers. With this card I just got approved for, I assume it will be $1.55 off per gallon.

        • There is no fee for third party gift cards (e.g., Amazon, Lowe's, restaurants, etc.). The fee on fixed value Visas/MasterCards varies by the value of the gift card:
          - $3.95 fee for $25 gift card
          - $4.95 fee for $25 gift card
          - $5.95 fee for $100 gift card

You do not earn Fuel Points on variable load Visas/MasterCards.

  • The one Kroger on my commute that has a gas station only allows $1/off gallon max. I tend to grab 5-6 fillups' worth of points whenever I do a 4x giftcard deal, but it's maxed at $15 since my car only takes 15 gals. What really sucks is all the Shells in the area used to take Kroger points, but have become Circle K's that don't.

I guess one fill up a week (31mp but long commute) x 15 gallon tank x $0.55 would net $429.

    • You can stack the .55 per gallon discount on top of your fuel points discount at Kroger Fuel for a maximum of a 1.55 per gallon discount. The maximum discount at Shell is .10 per gallon.

    • Buy fuel canisters. 35 gallon max. For most cars, you’ll need 4 5-gallon cans and a 2 gallon with around 12-13 in the car. $35 in savings every time.

    • This is why you're supposed to buy 5 gallon gas cans and bring them with you to fill up.

    • Get a couple portable containers. I have two five gallon containers, and my wife and I take both cars and park on opposite sides of the same pump. The maximum they will let you pump at a discount is 35 gallons total, and we usually get really close to that. With this credit card, we will be saving up to $54.25 per fill up if we max it out.

      • I’ve been doing the same since March 2021. After the first year, I just applied for a card under my name (first was under my wife’s) and locked in the 55 cent reward for another year. Sadly this will end next month and I’ll be at 25 cents after that.

  • The points on this card are only worth about a half penny each. I have actually had this card although I recently canceled it because I was no longer eligible for the promotional .55 off a gallon or in my case .25. In order to make this offer fly you need to do the following:

Use your Dillons plus card for purchases but pay with something like American Express Preferred for 6% off. In effect I don.t use it to buy groceries. I only use it for gas.

Take advantage of points earned from prescriptions and gift cards. This coming weekend offers 4X fuel points on gift cards. Prescriptions pay 25 points per monthly prescription.

Use a full 1000 points at a time and always try to max out the 35 gallons. I do carry an empty gas can or two. (My wife and I will fill up at the same time with one car filling up on the starboard side and the other on the port.)

At the end of the month I will sometimes buy gift cards to round out to the next thousand points.

    • Those are mostly good points, but your point about the reward points only being worth about a half penny each is out of date. It used to be true, but they revamped the card last fall. Now you can redeem points for statement credit at 1 penny per point.

  • We have a Fred Meyer and fuel points here. As KV mentioned, Freds gas doesn’t trigger 5% gas category. So in todays environment you’re losing like 3% if you pay with a 2% card, or like .15-.20 per gallon. I make this mistake way too much. Plus sometimes Fred Meyer isn’t the cheapest gas, or isn’t the most convenient. In my town, there is one station that consistently has the cheapest gas, and does bonus at 5% (meant for fleet vehicles and bare bones but open to anyone) so I go there when I can.

TDLR a .55 discount is really more like a .30 discount when you factor in lost rewards and price. Not sure if it’s worth it for a 5/24 slot.

    • I use a Sam's Club Mastercard at Kroger/ Jay C fuel center and it is coded as a gas station. I get 5% cash back not only on gas, but also drinks, snacks, tobacco and lottery.

  • I'm no expert, but it seems there's opportunity with the 5% mobile wallet category when abroad (e.g. China, where mobile wallet acceptance is ubiquitous) given the card has no foreign transaction fee.
