Our Verdict
Good deal on the variable load cards as it covers most of the activation fees and you can load up $500 to rack up grocery miles. Also useful for things like CSR PYB.
Don’t know if this is targeted, I have both save $3 and save $4 on Visa and Mastercard gift card digital coupons that work on variables. The best part is, the coupons stack 🙂 The $4 off coupon excludes $25 GCs and expires 6/4.
works on variable MC
Were you able to use it multiple times or did it only work one?
ozzi what happened is newer or selected card has a sticker on card notify you that pin number is default to last 4# of your gift card(can be found on the back little signature panel); if you package has a separate piece of paper with 4# on it, use that printed 4 number. Of course, you can change the pin# regardless. Hope this helps.
This is my first time purchase with variable USB Visa. When I open it, there is a sticker with pin number on the front. However when I call to change the pin, I was told by the agent the pin is the last 4 digits of card number. That makes me confused.
$4.00 version printed on my receipt last week, but not in the math when paid. Purchased $500.00 vGC. Same vGC variable design.
Today, the digital coupon $3.00 off worked /discounted on $500.00 vGC. Math worked and took the $3.00 off.
I bought two variable gift cards at Kroger today, tried to use them an hour later, and they were both declined. Called customer service and someone had tried to use them before they were activated and subsequently inactivated. So now I have to have them mail me replacements. What a pain in the butt. Gift card fraud seems to be increasing as of late.
You obviously didn’t read my comment below and in prior posts. There is a persistent fraud issue. Do not purchase these cards unless you are willing to wait 10 days nervously for a replacement.
What state?
CA. I contacted the store manager who told me giftcardmall is the vendor whose rep delivers all of the cards. My instinct is that the tampering did not happen at the store. I only say that because I am conditioned from this site and others to thoroughly inspect the packaging, even looking at any misalignments and of course the tear strip. Everything was perfect in appearance.
Dealing with the replacement was a chore. I don’t know where the call was routed but the rep barely spoke broken English. I had to ask for a supervisor twice, was never connected and eventually had to call back 3 times to finally get everything in order. It took well over an hour. And, for 400 lousy fuel points and a bit of cashback it absolutely was not worth the hassle.
I didn’t intend to be snarky with the person today posting their similar misfortune. But you have been warned.
Mikey I had trouble with these cards last year when I sat on some of them for several months, not realizing they were so prone to fraud. It was a nightmare for me to get them registered in my name by sending in proof that I bought them and having to call them more times than I can remember for an update. I figured that if I bought these cards again, I would use them right away, which I did yesterday. I thought one hour was a short enough timespan to avoid the fraud. Unfortunately, since someone tried to use them BEFORE they were activated, it triggered something in their system to automatically deactivate the cards once they were activated. So, there’s no way to do it quickly and be sure you’re good.
They have an absolutely horrendous system that is ridden with fraud. It would be really embarrassing to give these gift cards as actual gifts to someone only to have them call me and tell me they were declined.
Never again will I buy these cards. I have other options (CVS, Walgreens) that I’ve never had a problem with, so I will stick with them from now on.
I recently took advantage of the Safeway promo which discounts the purchase of 2 $50 and/or 2 $100 MasterCards. You do not earn fuel points but the offer itself basically offsets the fee with the purchaser earning a very small profit. So all I’m making is the 5% from the credit card on a grocery purchase. But at least I’ve never had a problem at this chain. And I’ve noticed that to register or even check the balance on these cards there is a far more complex verification process. Simply put, the card is therefore less likely to be hacked. So despite the fact that it’s time consuming and a chore it does effectively do the job of safeguarding funds.
Just one more reason to leave that state.
This happened to me in AZ (at Fry’s Food, a Kroger company).
Damn, that is not what I wanted to hear. I have a stack of $500s from Fry’s I haven’t opened yet 🙄
icemule1 Always thoroughly check the packaging of the VGC/MCGC. If it feels a little sticky or has some glue residue its probably been tampered with and pick out a different one. I have bought a ton of these VGC cards and always do the same routine.
Eric I always check them thoroughly. I think these hackers are brute forcing the numbers. They seem sequential with very little security. For example, they always seem to have 14 of the 16 digits the same, with the last two digits being what’s incremented sequentially by 8 or so. It would be very easy for anyone figure out what the next number in the sequence would be and keep attempting to use it without having the physical cards in hand. I believe this fraud is done that way with no tampering required.
Liquidated 8x $500s I’ve had for over a week, no issues.
Confirmed worked on variable loads VGC in Harris Teeter
My qualifying products are the $25, $50, $100 cards. Does not include the variable. Though the block of text that usually specifically excludes variables doesn’t specifically exclude them this time (like it does for the 4x fuel points coupon)
It just doesn’t show the variable loads online, it’ll work in store
I clip 3$ for 1 and $8 for 2(targeted) gift card today, then bought 2×100 fixed value vgc, both coupon applied and got almost 800 fuel points. Thanks
I think the offer may be targeted by store. My offer only excludes the variable load but is valid on any of the $25-100. Since I have the 5X cashback on grocery first year Freedom Flex the 4X fuel points make this a modest moneymaker.
NOTE: I did purchase a bogus $100 VISA at this store a few weeks ago so I’m wary. Packaging was absolutely pristine. Couldn’t register it at prepaidgiftbalance.com. The rep on the phone knew there was a problem. Took 10 days to get a replacement.
