• I get good value from using LifeMiles for biz class long haul tickets. I would like to see them have a similar promo for biz class tickets.

• I wish they would do this kind of promo with biz class tickets.

• Still have Lifemiles in the bank after 2 years; not as many flight options compared to Delta, United and AA.

• Testing to see if Eric gets an email. BTW I think your issue with copy/paste not working may be browser dependent...Firefox doesn't pick up any metadata for me so I usually highlight and use keyboard shortcuts, but Chrome seems to (not sure, I don't use normally use it).

  • Yes, I did. Interestingly, it is slightly different wording than when someone writes my guest #. It shows "Your Comment has been mentioned".

    BTW, I do use Chrome probably 99% of the time.

• can anyone comment on the taxes and fees? i feel these are extremely important and like nobody on any forum website ever talkes bout...they just take bout the ammount of miles it takes but not fees in details which i think are very important. i find AA to have some of the lowest award fees in my experience for example.

  • Hey vb, Lifemiles redemptions for Avianca metal can take up to 6 months to reimburse the taxes. They may have changed that policy. Be sure to set a reminder to follow up.

  • The taxes and fees should be looked at more closely for sure. People should subtract the taxes/fees out of the paid airfare figure when calculating value per mile.

  • I used LifeMiles to fly on SwissAir from Zurich to MIA. I think it cost around $150 in taxes/fees, which is similar to Air France/KLM Flying Blue. There was a cancellation fee where I was willing to just lose the miles if I had to cancel. Also, they were charging $33/year to prevent the miles expiring. I quickly looked for any award flights between MIA and Europe when I found the one on SwissAir. I booked that trip just to avoid paying the yearly fee.

    I've found AA to be the best for international award flights. Almost no carrier imposed fees and no cancellation fees.

    If you are buying a Colombia domestic flight the taxes are super cheap, akin to US domestic. It is only like $10 in taxes (the cents will change based on the airports. PEI-BOG is $10.15, AXM-BOG is $10.40, you get the idea). The problem is that you'll get a pretty basic redemption rate (under $0.015/mile).

    If you are buying US-Colombia international flights you will get some of the best rates in the business for economy, $0.02-$0.03/mile. The taxes are affordable flying into Colombia, but expensive flying back to the US. For example, JFK to BOG charges $47.80 in taxes, but BOG to JFK charges $120.61 in taxes - all those TSA, 911 fees. It'll vary a little bit here and there depending on US destination, but overall, it's high taxes for the way back.

    You can do some mock bookings on their site to see the taxes. Pretty easy.

  • Lifemiles taxes and fees are ok. Not terrible. Beware the cancellation fees though, that’s where they get you.

    • Agree Glenn, the $200 to redeposit the Lifemiles for most international awards is on the higher side comprared to other mile programs

      • Hello bullmeister, How does this work? One does not call United or Avianca to cancel the flight and do not arrive at the airport. Call Lifemiles the next day to have the the miles reinstated?

          Yes, you can reimburse your LifeMiles and taxes paid for your redeemed tickets, up to a maximum of one year after the ticket issuance date, provided that none of the ticket segments have been used. The reimbursement of taxes will depend on the government laws of each country. You can request reimbursement at Avianca´s sale offices or call center. A fee applies when a reimbursement is processed based on the route.
