  • I see the Golf MC mentioned here quite a bit. What is the attraction of the Golf MC gc? Is the usage limited to gold courses or are there other outlets for use? To the uninformed, it seems less flexible than the standard issue MC gc.

I can see the higher load as a benefit to a straight $ back for home improvement stores but the $15 Lowes gc promo is based on the number of $200 MC purchased/

    Thanks

    • The Golf MC is simply a $0-500 variable load M/C with a picture of a golf course on the front of the packaging. It can be used anywhere, not JUST golf courses. Although it likely runs into the same BHN issues of ~$480 max swipe (when purchasing MO's) that cropped up a month or so ago. IMHO, no real benefit to buying the golf ones unless they have a lower activation fee (I have seen $5.95/$6.95 fees on the Golf MCs, vs $6.95/$7.95 for the standard $0-200 M/Cs). I agree that the higher load isn't a huge benefit here since you are trying to maximize the # of $200 M/Cs purchased rather than trying to max the AMOUNT spent. Now if a certain credit card offered a good multiplier on purchases from home improvement stores, that would change the calculation, but none of my cards do. I was simply buying the Golf M/C to probe what works and what doesn't work.

  • I'm curious about the Variable Golf M/Cs that can be loaded up to $500 at Lowe's. Somebody said earlier in the Comments that those work for this promo. Are those REQUIRED to be loaded with $200, or does ANY amount over $200 work for this promo? I bought a Golf M/C today for $475.69, however it doesn't work for the promo, I just get an error message when trying to redeem for my $15 Lowes GC. I'm not sure if it doesn't work because the promo website doesn't accept cents as a value (ie, I can't input a decimal point), or if it's cuz the amount MUST be $200 exactly. Since there are no other VGC (or M/C) variable cards over $200 for sale at Lowe's, this would be the only card variation that could pose a problem, and ONLY during the M/C version of this promo. If I had more time during this promo, I probably would have attempted to purchase a $476.00 M/C to test this out.

    • Mine worked just fine. I too bought the Golf MC, loaded $500 and received ONE Lowe's egift, not two.

Edit to add: You do not put in the MC gc # - that could be your mistake.
You add what looks like a UPC #
      Hope that makes sense.

      • Thx for the reply. So it looks like load amounts above $200 work for this promo, and I just got tripped up by loading my card in an odd amount (with cents), due to the fact that the promo page does not accept cents. I am very well aware of how to redeem these Lowe's $15 GCs, in fact I'd wager that I've bought more $200 VGC/MCs from Lowes than 99% of ppl here over the past 2 years.

        • A few days ago, I went by a Lowes store and ended up buying a lot of these cards to max out all of my Freedoms. Found a few with the old $5.95, then had to use the ones with $6.95 fee. What I did was for each Freedom get 6x$200 loads, then on the 7th load picked a number close to the max allowed, but no cents value.
So each Freedom got over $1500 charged with maximizing the total of Lowes GCs.

So yeah, @guest_1592630 , if you had problems it was most likely the cents.

Edit: took out the exact numbers of purchases and Freedoms....

    • In fact, you can buy 10 x $200 M/Cs in the same transaction and still get 10 x $15 GCs. I sure do miss all the 3x bonus JetBlue miles though..........

      • Wait, really?

Just submit 10 rebate requests from 5 different email address (limit 2 per email)?

Do you know the $$ limit at self check out kiosk before it needs a override or something? Can we split payment on 2 cards at the kiosk?

        Thanks!

  • My local Lowes does not have the 6.95 cards, only 7.95 cards :( A small 2$ profit

  • Worked with the old Metabank cards that have a $6.95 fee. The website is also not clear, you have to enter the long 19 digit number on the back. I was able to get 2 x $15 back. This post really needs to be updated with more details.

  • How about using Bank of America cash rewards card get 5.25% back by having home improvements store as the reward category and a preferred member?

  • Worked easily for me as well. Self-checkout. I purchased them separately. Helps with the Sears MC added promo offer of making 4 separate $75 purchases for a $60 bonus. Lowes GC presented immediately after submission.

    • @guest_1588837

What was the transaction total at self check out? Did Karen come over to approve it? No fraud alert after several swipes back to back?

      • $207.95 no problems- that's probably a specific cc fraud setting - they've programmed the self-checkout kiosk to allow it mainly because there are no cashiers

  • Purchased a couple of cards this afternoon. No problems redeeming.

Enter 19-digit number on the back of the card as card number.
Enter amount loaded on the card (e.g. 200)
    Select purchase date

    • Thank you for making it clear! I'm 70 years old and obviously back in Kindergarten, but your instructions were better than the submission form. I've got my first $15. I'd have 2 except the first card I picked up was a Visa because I read the March 30th headline where it said MC but underneath referred to the $10 for Visa.

Of course once I was in store all I could remember was Visa.
