  • Note: When they say recurring they mean it. See this datapoint.

Avoiding Fees

You can open the Free Plus Checking account and still qualify for this bonus, this account has no monthly fee. I wasn’t able to find any early account termination fee in the fee schedule.

Their iChecking account has a $5 monthly fee, this is waived if you have a minimum daily balance of $500+.

Our Verdict

Very large bonus, obviously direct deposit is going to be a challenge (especially at the $10,000 level), the good thing is that the direct deposits need to total that amount within 60 days so you can have multiple direct deposits. They also say they are going to monitor accounts, so this likely needs to be a true direct deposit. This is one of the best checking account bonuses if you’re able to meet the requirements with your paycheck as it’s a soft pull and you can fund with a credit card and it’s a high maximum bonus of $500. In addition no need to worry about any early account termination fees.

  • Also be warned, if you don't keep your account active, after 45 days they close it. Even though it's not stated in their rules.

  • Another rejection for bonus because " you have to manually “register” your email at the link provided after opening account to be eligible for the promotion, as stated in the fine print". I don't remember seeing any such link, while opening account.

    I’m out my $500 now :( :(

  • My $500 bonus posted yesterday, 4/12. I opened the account on 2/6, last DD to hit $10k posted 3/15 and finished debit transactions (mostly $0.50 amazon reloads) on 3/31. I sent a SM to confirm I hit the requirements... they did ask me to verify the DDs were truly payroll by submitting a pay stub. Other than that, no issues and fast bonus.

    I'm out my $500 now :(

  • Does anyone have DP's about what could trigger this bonus? It doesn't seem worth it to open this account if you can't get employer DD set up soon enough to meet the higher thresholds.

  • Data Point: Funded account with Chase Freedom Unlimited for a total of $500. Took a few days as pending before it finally posted as purchase.
