Our Verdict

I don’t think the $300 bonus is worth considering due to the $75,000 required to keep fee free. For the $200 bonus you’re locking up $7,500 for an extra $100 bonus, keep in mind the account needs to be kept open for six months. If you put that $7,500 into a 2% account you’d end up earning $75 so that might be worth considering (keep in mind the $100 bonus also requires $1,000 to keep fee free or direct deposit so the opportunity cost is actually even lower). Previously they have offered a $100 bonus but that required opening in branch. Looks like this one can be opened online. I’ll be adding this to our list of the best checking bonuses.

  • They do a chex systems check. If you have opened a significant number of banks in the past, they will turn you away. In my case this number was 7.

  • Looks you can use the 7 month CD at 2.3% for $7500 to avoid fees on the $200 bonus. That seems like the best value to me. I think I'll try this one. Thanks!

  • DP:
    open: 11/18/18
real payroll DD's all the way through...
    bonus payed: $200 on 3/22/19

p.s. also opened a $7,500 7 month CD at 2 % to keep linked checking account fee free.

    • Nope. I used Bluebird, and because I was taking no chances, did $501 for four months running. I also visited a branch in person to trade in some coins, but my debit card didn't work and needed some tweaks. I had to see a teller in person, who then took pains to point out to me their current CD promo at, I think, 2.95% interest; which if not standard upselling, I thought she might have thrown that in there because my customer profile had "tells" indicating I had a promo code on my account. (Coin counting is free to patrons, btw, if that has value for you.) . I wondered for a mad moment if maybe I had inserted FALL200 instead of FALL100, but now that you have posted, I don't think I did... Maybe there was a problem applying the code in the application process.

  • Fidelity ACH doesn't work for the direct deposit. Has been 5 months since I opened (with 500 monthly DD), and no bonus. Oh well..

    • Thanks for stopping by! I was starting to think I was the only one who never saw any money. Plus this month they charged me $10 in service fees, to add insult to injury.

      • I had 7 real payrolls deposited into this account, but I never any bonus until today......

  • Anybody else failed to see the bonus hit their account? I made 1 Bluebird transaction of $501 for 4 consecutive months (first of 'em was 8/29); and I kept a full balance of $500 until January 7, at which point I got fed up and moved it out somewhere else. Still waiting...

    • ETA to add: I was thinking of wrong account... my first recurring DD from Bluebird was 10/3/18, so it's been 100 days. Sorry for mixup!

  • There's a possibility this offer might be dead? I used the link to sign up and received an error that the coupon code was invalid. Signed up anyways and reached out to support team with the coupon code and that the date said into November for validation. Will update with their response
