The Fine Print

  • Middlesex Savings Bank will pay a $200 incentive to a customer for opening a new Freedom Checking account between 7/1/2021 and 12/31/2021. To be eligible, the individual must not have held a personal checking account at Middlesex Savings Bank within the 90 days prior to opening the new checking account regardless of whether an account was previously held individually or joint with others.
  • Mention or enter offer and promo code listed at time of account opening. Promo code: Cash200.
  • To qualify, the debit card(s) associated with the account must be used at least eight (8) times within the first sixty (60) days of account opening.
  • Transactions must post and clear within the 60-day timeframe to be counted.
  • Following verification of debit card usage for qualifying accounts, a $200 check will be mailed to the primary accountholder to the address provided at account opening within 90 days of account opening.
  • Void where prohibited.
  • All accounts are subject to standard account opening processes and standards, and such standards must be met for offer to be paid.
  • Offer expires 12/31/2021, however, Middlesex Savings Bank reserves the right to revoke this offer at any time. Limit one offer per checking account.

Our Verdict

Seems like a great bonus. Much better than the $100 checking bonus as it’s an extra $100 plus no direct deposit required. Definitely worth doing as there is no monthly fee to worry about either. Adding to our best bank account bonuses.

  • Opened a CD for 2k funding on Wells Fargo signify (went through as a purchase). Got another Chex pull.

    • No. Their enrolling process was also a little clunky in that they sent an access code via email but delivery was delayed by 20+ minutes, IME. Best to go slow with this one.

    • @2 This does seem to be accurate. Kind of a junk offer at the moment with such a high fee if not holding 50k.

      • Agreed, not worth.
        Based on other DPs, perhaps you could get the bonus in 1-2 months and then close and pay 1-2 months of fees, but still seems not great.

  • Got the Bonus check for code Worcester in the mail same day as my first month's paper statement. (Separate envelope). I don't live in Worcester so the "csr who said the applicant must have Worcester address" is wrong (as I suspected since the T&Cs didn't say anything about that).
    Did 8x $1 Amazon reloads. Also did some "real" spend but that was on the second month's statement so clearly just Amazon reloads worked.
    Referred P2, but their spend is on second month's statement. Will report back in a month if this Stacked with the Referral. (Hoping that P2 will get both a check and a visa gc + visa gc for P1 => $650 total between two accounts; but will be satisfied with 2x $200)

  • Account closed. Not sure why. Live in footprint as well so it's a bit weird. Called and they had no info on why it's closed so they said to keep an eye out for the mail.

    • Bummer. Did you pull your funds as soon as they were available? I've learned that some banks are sensitive about that. Go2Bank suddenly closed my account right after I tried to initiate a pull of a same-day deposit.

      I used my funds to pay off a cc and kept about 300 in there for small debits. Will be maintaining this account so that I can auto pay my loan with them. Seems fine so far.

      • Yeah I did actually withdraw early (1 day after my account was funded). Withdrew all but approx $50. I guess that could be what did it though I guess it took them a few days after I withdrew to close it instead of immediately. I wonder if there's anyway to get them to reopen but maybe not. welp

  • 2/29 - instantly approved with Worcester code. Would have preferred to use a referlive link instead since I'm in Suffolk county but I wasn't able to find one.

    2k funding was successfully posted as a purchase on BoA Biz MC. I tried a USB Triple Cash Visa but the authorization failed. It's possible there's a bug for processing Visas since someone else had a similar experience.

    I was provided with an account number at the end of the application, but still no access to OLB.

      Just tried to use Wells Fargo Active Cash (Visa) and Chase Freedom Unlimited (Visa) and got authorization failed as well.

      Used my Bank of America Ultimate Cash Rewards (Mastercard) and that one went through it seems
