Our Verdict

Marriott offered a 20% discount in May. If anything market conditions since then have gotten worse, so it’s interesting to see Marriott try to offer a lower discount here. If you’re going to purchase these remember:

  • Use your Marriott card to earn 6x Bonvoy points, or any credit card should code as Travel for the travel category bonus.
  • Reports indicate that this will work to trigger the $300 Brilliant credit too (though that credit now works at Restaurants, anyway, so easy to use up), despite official reports saying it won’t.

  • Any DP - If Marriot GC purchased with Barclay Arrival card, can you redeem your Arrival miles (for travel category) against this GC purchase? Thank you !!

  • I bought $1,000 of these back in May. Really great deal, especially when combined with the employee rate. A few instances have resulted in check-out time taking 5-10 minutes to process the gift card, but overall really recommend if you have upcoming paid stays!

    • Are there no restrictions on use? Can you still use it with at-cost employee rates, sales-negotiated rates and long-term rates? Basically, do the hotels get as much money from these cards as they get from a CC? Or would they have any incentive not to accept it, and prefer a CC? (Provided the front-desk knows how to actually use the cards.)

Also, does anyone know if Marriott offers refunds if I'd have any issues with acceptance? It seems like the FAQ may suggest that refunds are available for unused cards within 60 days of purchase, can anyone confirm if it applies to these cards as well?

  • I'm going to be at a Marriott location from now until December. Anything I might want to consider before pulling the trigger on buying a large quantity to cover my stay? I've got a Bonvoy card. The cashback portals still seem to be closed.

  • Does anyone know if there will be Daily Getaway from US Travel Ass, that usually has these and other better gift card deals?

  • I purchased some when they were 20% off a few months ago. So far have only used it twice, so be warned: You may be in for a long wait at the front desk and a lot of follow up when trying to use these as many people don't know how to process it.
My first stay I had zero issues, they knew how to handle it.
Same property a month later and it took 3 people at the front desk upon check-in, one phone call after I left to get them to charge the gift card, another call to get a folio/receipt and finally a missing stay request for my points.
