Marriott Announces Plans For Five All Inclusive Resorts – Expected To Open 2022-2025

Yesterday Marriott announced plans to enter the all inclusive market. It has signed management contracts with hotel developers who plan to build five all inclusive resorts that are expected to open between 2022 and 2025. The hotel developers are expected to spend $800 million on these new resorts and they will provide more than 2,000 new rooms. The new resorts, locations and expected opening times are as follows:

  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: 650-room Autograph Collection resort (2022 anticipated opening)
  • NIA, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico:
    • 240-room The Ritz-Carlton resort (2023 anticipated opening)
    • 400-room Westin Hotels resort (2023 anticipated opening)
    • 300-room Autograph Collection resort (2025 anticipated opening)
    • 500-room Marriott Hotels resort (2025 anticipated opening)

It’s a bit disappointing that four of the resorts are in the same location just under different brands. It’ll be interesting to see how award nights at these properties will work, but given that the first opening isn’t expected until 2022 and we have no idea what the Marriott program will look like at that time I don’t think it’s worth speculating.
