Marriott Sending Out $30 or $50 or $100 Gift Cards to Elite Members for No Apparent Reason

Moments ago, Marriott emailed out to many members a free gift of a Marriott gift card. Three readers sent this in immediately, two got $50 and one got $30, and I’d assume tons of others got  this as well, possibly in various denominations. One reader mentions getting $100 gift card.

Search for subject line “Your Gift from Marriott Bonvoy”.

This does not appear to be tied to any sort of complaints. I’d guess it’s based on Marriott level/usage/points, but it’s not entirely clear yet who got it and what amounts as many who haven’t had recent Marriott stays are getting this as well. Clearly they are trying to fight back on the negative PR and perception of customers.

You may be able to sell a Marriott gift card if you don’t have use for it.

[Update: Sounds like Titanium members got $50 and some others got $30 (?). But not all Titanium got a gift.]

  • What a *bleeping* joke of a promotion. Give an irrelevant amount to people who are already existing big spenders. And then anger everyone else who gets stiffed. They should have done the reward by status level. Silver $20, Gold $40, Platinum $60. That way, at least everyone would feel included/valued. Marriott is doing a fantastic job of alienating many loyal customers.

  • Titanium, $50.

Tried to use it today at a hotel restaurant in a Westin Resort, Maui and was denied. Will this be worthless just like all of my "suite night upgrades" that no one accepts?

  • Nada for me, Titanium here. Neither did my wife receive anything, she is Gold.

  • Got nothing from Marriott about a gift card. Gold status organically. I hit gold organically again tonight.

  • $30
Gold (from cc) with 29 nights (15 from card) so far. Mix of points and paid nights
