The Offer
- Meijer has a digital coupon to get 10% discount on Meijer gift cards on Saturday, November 12th only. Max $250; valid on any amount between $25 and $250.
Our Verdict
Grocery gift cards are as good as cash for people in the area. Nice deal. Use a card that earns a bonus on the Grocery or use this Amex Offer deal for 5% off.

Does it apply if I buy multiple cards totaling 250$? Or need to be single gift card?
Just purchased 5 * $50 gcs in one transaction. get 10% off on each.
I just used mine for 1x250. I did not try to do multiple smaller cards, but the discount does show up before paying. You can test a couple small ones and see if the discount shows up for both before paying. If not then cancel and do a 250 card to maximize.
Last time they had a deal with a 10% gc coupon, it only attached to one gift card. Most likely the customer service desk will give you a credit for the rest, but just be prepared to spend time in line dealing with it.
The terms on the coupon aren't clear one way or the other.
Because it's not clear, I would think that if it doesn't come off multiples, customer service should be able to fix it. Not ideal of course, but an avenue if something goes awry.
The downside of this offer, to me, is how long I'd have to wait in a checkout line tomorrow to actually make this purchase. Meijer doesn't allow the purchase of gift cards at self checkouts, at least not in my area. The handful of manned checkout lines always have long lines. Is it worth spending a half hour waiting in one of those lines to save 25 bucks? I'm not sure.
Highly YMMV on that. Local stores have at times either required a SCO attendant for "age verification" (they used the prompt to ensure an attendant came to authorize the transaction, not that there was a min age), or required visiting a cashiered lane. At this time, no such restrictions are in place - $250 gift card bought for $225 at SCO with no interaction with the attendant.
When they made the switch at my Meijer, on two or three occasions when I tried to use the SCO anyway the attendant came over to tell me I could no longer check out with them myself and had to go to the service counter.
Weird. Mine allows it, including VGC and MCGC. I'm not stopping at $25 either since Meijer is where I do 75% of my grocery shopping.
Mine won't let you use any checkout lane--you have to take them up to the service desk to buy them.
And two (three) things I've discovered because of this: when you pay with a gift card--I do this to compound the discounts on these--it rings up as a debit card and you have to enter the PIN (but if you have troubles with that, the cashier can override it and ring it up as credit if you don't enter the PIN); it then asks if you would like cash back (which I've been tempted to try to get some/all of the remaining amount off of it but so far have not).
But this only works when using a Visa or Mastercard gift card to buy another Visa or Mastercard gift card: Meijer--at least my Meijer--no longer lets you use Meijer-branded gift cards to buy them. (Can't recall if the reverse is also true, but it probably is.)
You can't buy any gift cards at Meijer with Meijer branded gift cards.
I bought a $250 Meijer gift card this morning and used 8 of my MC/Visa gift cards with small amounts and then my Apple Pay/Discover for the rest. All done at self checkout.
> (which I’ve been tempted to try to get some/all of the remaining amount off of it but so far have not).
You cannot get cash back from a prepaid debit card
A screen does come up offering the option when I pay with one--but as I said, I haven't yet tested to see if it works (too timid). Have you specifically tried it in this manner (when it offered) and failed?
I'd feel the same way if that were the case at my locations. But I've had no issues buying gift cards at self checkout.
Think I’m going to off load some MC GCs from staples.
Thanks for the heads up. Good as cash to me since we do our regular grocery shopping there.
Me like. Meijer is awesome. Jewel raised it prices so much that Meijer has become my main go to.
Thanks for posting.
