Our Verdict

It’s basically like a 50% discount, might be even better if you use this for a business as it may be possible to write off the full $99 and pocket the $50 bonus (I’m not a tax expert, please consult your accountant on this). Thanks to anyone who uses our link to make the purchase.

Two interesting notes from Nick at Frequentmiler:

  • You can’t pay for this with an Amazon gift card since the purchase contains an Amazon gift card.
  • In the past, it was possible to use this digital purchase to extend an existing Microsoft Office subscription – you just have to go into your Amazon Digital Subscriptions and Licenses and get the key. Let us know in the comments if you try this out successfully. (Update: Readers confirm that this is still working.)

  • If you only need Office 365 Personal (and 1TB storage for 1 vs 6 users), then this deal is effectively $20 off $70. So it's a 29% discount, not 50% off, if that's the case.

  • Confirmed that this will extend a current Office 365 subscription by 1 year, just enter the product code in the 'redeem a code' section.

    • For those still tempted to jump, go to https://redeem.microsoft.com and enter the code there. This method was verified by a Microsoft support agent to properly extend, not create a new subscription.

Going to Services & Subscriptions > Redeem a Code may not work correctly.

I just used this method to successfully extend my current subscription.

    • When I tried to redeem the code, it actually creates a new subscription that expires 12 months from now, instead of extending my current subscription (which expires about 20 months from now). Spent an hour with Microsoft billing support and still no solution.

  • it looks like we can share with 6 members/devices ..Anyone interested in sharing subscription or two ?

    • Wondering this as well. I could purchase one and have my wife purchase one and we would have two year plan, per se.

    • Looks like there is a limit 1. Not sure if it's possible to purchase more than one by doing one per transaction.

  • if this was the standalone, non-sub, version - I'd be all over it. Not a fan of MS subscriptions for Office

    • Honestly, it's one of the better valued software subscription packs being offered... especially when compared to something like Adobe's Creative Cloud

Each user gets unlimited* installs of the full Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, Access), 1 TB dedicated Onedrive storage, 60 mins/month Skype call credit, and chat/phone support.

That's pretty generous for $70 annually, or (especially) 6 users for $100 annually.

Of course, if you don't use/value those benefits, it's harder to justify. Just wanted to clarify the benefits available... surprising number of people I run into think it's *just* Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

(*5 installs of the suite can be active, or signed in, simultaneously. The others are inactive, or signed out. Signing in to it immediately reactivates the install, by signing out one of the other devices.)

  • If you agree to annual auto-renew w/Microsoft you get 1 mo free when registering the product. So essentially 13 mo for ~$105 (w/tax), and then $50 coming back as a physical Amazon GC.

  • This was odd - it split the charge between the two items - $50 on the GC and 49.99 on the software.
