Our Verdict
We need to know if this is a hard or soft pull to open, if it’s a soft pull then I definitely think it’s worth doing if you’re eligible as the requirements are very easy to meet and there are no monthly fees to worry about. If anybody goes for this bonus then please share your experiences in the comments below.

They denied my online application most likely due to Chex, but I was able to successfully open in-branch.
9/3: account opened in-branch
9/13: 4x $0.50 Amazon reloads
9/17: $200 bonus posted
This is about as easy as it gets.
so will 4 amazon reloads trigger the $50x4 = $200 bonus? and then the other $200 will just be provided into the account automatically shortly after opening? am i understanding correctly for both parts of the bonus?
anyone know if they post quick or take a while?
6 days since application and no word other than initial email confirmation?
I applied on 7/4 and called them today (7/10). Rep said that my application is in progress and I should receive a letter in the next week. Slow process...
I got my denial letter today (7/15). Letter says something about Chex System and having a 149 QualiFile Score (whatever that means). It says these key factors adversely affected my score:
Previous debit inquiry history
Insufficient debt history
Multiple recent debit inquires
5 for me.
how do you show/prove you're military? the application is very quick and straightforward. i just had basic info entered and its already at the 'submit' page. how do i verify with them that i am military so im eligible before submitting my app?
They contacted me by email after the app went through, I just sent them an LES.
Is this geographically restricted?
"Must mention offer at time of account opening for bonus eligibility". will there be a code we'll have to input?
Just applied online. You need to be approved for the FCU before you can open an account. Here is the email I received:
Dear Grant,
We have received your online membership application. We will contact you within two business days. Some things to keep in mind regarding your membership application:
All new member accounts require a savings account with a minimum of deposit balance of $5.00.
All potential members must qualify for membership and are subject to approval based on information provided by ChexSystems.
Thank you for your interest in AAFCU®. We look forward to helping you meet your financial goals. If you have any questions, please call our contact center at 719.593.8600 or 800.223.1983. You may also visit any of our branch locations and a member service representative will be happy to assist you.
Sincerely,
Air Academy Federal Credit Union
I didn't know you were military/ex mil, grant!
I qualify under the family of retired military members :)
Ah, makes sense =)
@guest_778765
Will that work if family member is deceased?
Yes, should be fine.
Which checking account gives you the $50.00 per debit card transaction? Some say 18 transactions required, so I'm confused.
The 3% cashback debit card is a really interesting checking account. Caps at $300 spend or $9 CB per month. And requires 18 debit card purchases.
I could see the right person making an easy $8-$9 per month with this.
@will
FYI, I had missed out on this originally, but snoozed the deal in my email so I could follow the link to see if the extend the date again... I just checked now and see the date was updated at some point recently... interestingly enough it shows "June 31, 2019"...
Considering there is no 31st of June, I'm thinking they intended this to run through July especially considering I had just checked this 2 weeks ago and it still had the May deadline. Maybe they'll fix it this week to provide us some confirmation for an update/repost.
@will
The date from the link has now been updated to 9/30/19
