Hoping for some help here -
Opened account under this promotion, did the opening deposit, then did the $500 DD, I tried for a month to login online, and even called a dozen times to get my username they would not provide it. I need the online login to do the e-statements portion of the bonus.
Today I called and they said they “could not keep the account open”. Even though it had $600 in it. So basically I met all the requirements, they refused to provide me my username to do the e-statements and fulfill the bonus, then closed my account.
Is this fair?
Unfortunately, whether it is "fair" or not is irrelevant. What is important is if they were legally allowed to close your account and deny you the bonus.
If you don't think so, file a complaint with the CFPB as you have nothing to lose at this point. Keep in mind that I am only 1/3 in CFPB complaints in my life so it's certainly not a given that you will win.
I mean can’t they basically close the account for any reason?
Pretty much but I'm pretty sure there are some exceptions.
I definitely feel it’s just for them to get out of paying the bonus. Especially since it took several weeks of trying just to even try to get my username for online banking when the online banking system said I had an online account and to call in for the username. I submitted a CFPB complaint I’m wondering what will happen even if I win like would they mail me a check for the bonus? That’s a bit confusing.
Probably.
Also, I'm not sure if you are aware of this but the CFPB actually has no power and it will be Keen that will be deciding your fate.
Let me know how it goes. I hope that you win!
Its been 3 business days and they still haven't returned my money... will have to cfpb them.
UPDATE : Called them today and they said i need to dispute the charge with my bank in order to get my money back.
What a joke.
Don't do business with these idiots.
DP: They are Chex, please update this bank in your post.
Weird I've had other banks turn me down for Chex, Keen opened the account.

I called them today to setup online banking after they took my money out of my bank account this morning and they said i was going to be denied because of inquires and my money will be returned to me in 3 business days.
