MoviePass is now requiring some users to upload photos of their ticket stubs after making a purchase. This is part of a beta program, presumably if it goes well and reduces fraud it will be implemented across all users. Hopefully they don’t plan to also add the four movie restriction to existing user accounts as well… Hat tip to Miles to Memories

The Offer
- MoviePass is subscription service that lets you see one standard 2D Movie every calendar day. The cost will vary depending on what they are currently offering, but usually they charge $9.95 per month.
Currently they are charging $7.95 per month with a $19.95 joining but you must sign up for a years subscription that makes it $115 per year. If you have a Costco membership you can get it for $89.99 and it also includes a years Fandor membership as well. Only regular $9.95 pricing is currently available.

Free Trial
When Moviepass relaunched as $9.95 they briefly offered a free trial, unfortunately this is no longer being offered. As mentioned above, there are several other ways to save money on this membership though.
Changes
This section of the post will track changes to MoviePass as they happen:
- Update 01/25/18: MoviePass is no longer being accepted at certain AMC Theaters. What’s interesting is that it seems that MoviePass and not AMC Theaters are the ones making the change according to Deadline. It looks like the AMC theaters being blocked also charge a premium compared to other theaters. Keep in mind Costco has this on sale as well.
- Update: Annual offer no longer available and now you can only get the $9.95 per month option.
- Reposting because they are now offering an annual pass for $89.95 here. They are not offering the $9.95 monthly pass at this stage. Not sure if there is any way for existing customers to upgrade their account and if you cancel your account you’re not eligible to sign up for another 9 months. According to chat reps they will be sending existing members an e-mail in the near future with the offer to upgrade, so I’d recommend waiting for this if you’re interested (Update: Read this comment for more details). Annual offers like this scare me with MP, because there has to be no way they are actually profitable. Credit card chargebacks are always an option, but they are only good for a period of time after the charge posts.

Referral Program

MoviePass Competitors/Alternatives
MoviePass has one main competitor when it comes to movie subscription services and that’s Sinemia. Unlike MoviePass they don’t offer unlimited viewings, but prices start at $4.99 per month and some plans include premium screens. In addition you can book tickets in advance and use in some countries outside of the United States.
Our Verdict
I personally love going to the movies (especially by myself) but one of the reasons I don’t go more often is the price. This deal seems insane. Nick over at Frequent Miler has a great post discussing the pass so I’d recommend reading that first before purchasing. I don’t see how this is remotely sustainable so will be interesting to see what their business model actually is.

I been having to do this since they first started doing this. But today im now limited to only seeing the movie once. I can't check in that movie again after seeing it.
Player 2 and I went yesterday. No pictures of stubs needed, just usual "check in" process, then buy ticket.
without a prior notification, they have also made another change in their new app update: They do not let you buy tickets for the movies you have already watched... I am just sick and tired of this company. I made an annual subscription to their service back in November, and they just keep changing and changing their terms and conditions on a daily basis almost!! When I signed up, the deal was to watch one movie in regular set up viewing per day... and I should be guaranteed that for at least a year until my subscription ends.

Yes, they are back to forcing you to take pics of tickets. Don't need to do it for E-Tickets, but other tickets.
They added back the AMC theaters they dropped--at least in Chicago.

It's a great deal but the APP can be a bit glitchy particularly regarding the photos of ticket stubs. Still well worth doing.
How did they notify you of the picture of ticket requirement? I have not seen an email yet to do that.
I got an email on 4/27 with the subject line: Dave, Important Updates from MoviePass.
The body of the email says "we will soon begin testing some new safeguards" and it explains the ticket stub picture upload procedure. It says I was a "randomly selected participant." Plus, they released an update to the app which now requires me to take a stub photo using the app. There's a Verify screen that pops up right after I check in to a movie (but I can wait until after the movie is over). I have to take the photo before the app lets me check in to any more movies. According to the FAQs, if I lose my stub I can submit an explanation instead, but if this happens more than once, my membership could get canceled.
MoviePass is ONLY offering the 4 movie a month plan now (plus iHeartRadio) at this time. You cannot buy any other plan. You cannot buy the movie a day plan any more. It remains to be seen what MoviePass may do to existing movie a day customers. They could change it for monthly customers, I guess, but what about those with annual agreement?
You also can only watch that movie once.
Is Cotsco deal dead?
They just started enforcing the policy where you can only see same movie once. I think this is bigger news.
Its quite clear that the previous system was abused, hence the new changes.
I did not see the fine print. I was charged $115. When I realized how much I had been charged I tried to contact them for a refund. I received a reply to my text. 10 days went by. I never received my refund or any other communication from the company. I canceled. I still have not received my refund. I don't know what to do now.
Contact your credit card company and dispute the charge. When I signed up last August they charged me the day I signed up and I had to dispute the charge with my amex
