There are three credit card signup offers which are slated to end on Monday, March 14th:
- Chase Southwest Personal Cards Referral Offer: 30,000 Points + Companion Pass Through 3/14/22
- Capital One Premium ‘Venture X’ Card With 100,000 Points + $200 Signup Bonus ($395 Fee, $300 Travel Credit, 10k Annual Bonus)
- Capital One Spark Cash Plus $3,000 Signup Bonus With $50,000 Spend
While Capital One typically limits us to just one new card per 6 months, anecdotally people have been getting approved for the Spark Cash Plus after being approved just months earlier for the Venture X.
In my case, I’d already gotten approved for the Spark card more than a month ago under the enhanced $3,500 banker offer. A number of us were wondering if we’d be able to get the Venture X card within 6 months of getting the Spark given that most of the positive data points had done it the other way around.
As time is running out, I decided just now to shoot off an application – I went through a friend’s referral link and applied for the Venture X. Unfortunately, I got a quick denial from Capital One.
I’m unsure if the denial is due to the 6-month rule or personal circumstances. We’ve yet to hear of an approval for the Venture X within 6 months of a Spark approval. I’d guess personal>business works whereas business>personal does not work. Let us know if you any experience with this.

I assume 6 month rule.
I applied for Spart Cash plus after applying for Venture X, same day, March 14, and was approved for the venture ask but not the spark cash plus.
Reason for denial: recent Cap One application
Too many accounts
I can't test applying for any cards right now.. I'm going through closing of house and in pre approval itself they asked me about the last credit card approval
Same. It's frustrating too because I have SO much organic spend right now.
Didn’t preapproval options used to be instant? Just did it and said I should get a letter in 7-10 days?
Chuck, I am in the same situation. Applied and obtained Capital One Spark 2X Miles for Business card in late October, not too long before the Venture X came out. (So sad!)
I've been checking my Cap1 pre-qualified offers monthly and it's giving me the "you aren't eligible for anything" response presumably because I have applied for another Cap1 <6 months ago.
Not even trying to get Venture X right now for me. P2 just got it though (no previous Cap1 cards in recent history)
We have two venture X cards in our house. The card is totally lit. We already got the $300 plus $200 credits, 100,0000 bonus points on my wife’s card.
I’m awaiting 25,000 points for her referring me and approved, which we haven’t received yet.
Did you have ANY Capital One cards open before being referred to Venture X? If so, the referral bonus specifically states it will only be awarded if you refer a new Capital One cardmember who doesn’t have any open cards.
Did the Spark Miles card appear on the credit reports? If so, how long after approval did it appear? Thanks!
I kept checking for Venture X on my prequal offer and it would never show. I was only seeing secure credit card or Quicksilver. I had 0% APR on my Venture One (no fee) so I left a small balance on VentureOne. Once the statement came out, I started seeing Savor and Venture (still no Venture X) on my prequal. I saw this as a sign that their systems now see my profile differently so I went ahead and applied for Venture X. I got an immediate approval.
The C1 prequal link won't ever show you the Venture X. It's got a section on the landing page saying "We will consider your eligibility for the cards above."
Sadly I was denied as well, but P2 was approved. She thanked me sarcastically. Ha!
if you have too many inquries they will deny you too like if you have over 8 in 24 or something,
The only consistent thing I have read is to choose "sometimes carry a balance" which has given approvals. chose the same thing and got instant approval
I don't think that matters. I selected that and was denied. P2 selected it and was approved. She is 3/24 and I am at 5/24.
You gotta actually carry a balance. They approved me after my 3rd app and carrying a large balance on one of my cards (0% of course). That was the only thing that changed. As always ymmv
Were you carrying that balance on another Cap1 card, if so which one? Or was it a card from another bank that they saw high utilization on credit report?
