New Chase Hyatt Card – 5/24 Does NOT Apply & Weak Upgrade Bonus

Chase has launched a new Hyatt cobranded card called ‘World of Hyatt’, we discussed it in more detail here. Two F.A.Q’s readers had were answered in this post by Point Me To The Plane (who had access to Leslie Gilin, Chase President of Co-Brand Cards). The questions and answers are:

  • Does the Chase 5/24 rule apply to this card? Update: According to Gary Leff from View From The Wing the 5/24 rule won’t immediately apply to this card, but it will in the future. Yes. (Although I’m not 100% sure this is accurate as previously Chase has refused to answer direct questions regarding 5/24 and Point Me To The Plane incorrectly describes 5/24 as ‘…meaning those who have been approved for five new Chase card sign-ups in the past two years may get rejected’ 5/24 looks to all the cards you’ve been approved for, not only Chase cards.)
  • Will there be an upgrade bonus? Yes. You’ll be able to receive 2,000 points for upgrading and presumably paying the $25 difference in annual fees. That upgrade offer is pathetically bad, but I guess they know that some people will want to upgrade regardless of the bonus offered.

Chase 5/25 data points:

5/24 doesn’t apply: 1, 2,

  • I think the 5/24 for this card just took affect. read the dp on reddit also i had two friends who applied who were 20/24 and they both got declined even though this card is not 5/24
It was a instant denial. Once applied and called in it was declined for too many inquires

  • 5/24 doesnt apply. I was 5/24, just got it approved. I guess I'm in for another churning round.

  • Has anyone canceled their existing Hyatt card and then applied for the new one and received an approval? I got the bonus from them forever ago so I know i would be eligible if this works. Just looking for any DPs, or advice on how this could work

  • DP: I applied and was approved instantly with a $24K credit line. I am 20/24 and last applied for a Chase card Sept 2017, this is my 5th active card with them, 8th overall.

  • Got approved after a week of waiting.. Well over 5/24. They matched my highest existing Chase card (this gives me 5 cards with Chase now).

  • "We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days." - should I simply wait or should I cal them?

  • Any idea if applying in a Chase branch (still) has any advantages towards approval?

  • I'm probably at around 20/24...lots of cards in the past 2 years. I have 6 current Chase cards and 'all the credit that chase will give me'. I could move some credit from a current card to open a new one, but I'm afraid of an approval then shutdown from applying for too many cards. DoC - do you have concerns about Chase shutdowns from too many recent inquiries?

  • Just wanted to add a data point.

Applied this morning, got decision pending. I had Exp & Equifax frozen and transunion open. Called recon and they said they have to do exp. So I unfroze it for the day and they did the inquiry and approved me for $15K CL. I'm definitely above 5/24, but this is my first chase card in about a year since I applied for CSP via branch.

  • Will just a note it looks like it’s only a $20 Difference in the AF above you wrote:
