Avoiding Fees
They offer a free checking account with no monthly fees to worry about. There is also a $20 membership fee to join as well. I wasn’t able to find any early closure fee in the fee schedule.
Our Verdict
I think this would be worth doing if it’s a soft pull (and you should be able to ask and find this out before opening) and if you live near a branch. A direct deposit is required but it looks like any ACH credit will work according to the fine print and doing 12 debit card transactions is easy (some ideas here). We will add this to our best bonus list if we find out it’s a soft pull. As always share your experiences in the comments below. They have also offered the same bonus in the past.

Last year there was a similar offer for a new branch near me. I went in and asked about the soft pull and got a very uninformed answer. They claimed there was no such thing and other things that it would be a credit check. I didn't feel comfortable opening an account with a place where a supervisor wasn't very informed about types of credit pulls.
Doesn't surprise me, frontline reps are often clueless.
