  • Just stopped at an Office Depot in Chicago. Purchased two happy lady’s in separate transactions back to back, each for $90. No issues and cashier didn’t care. I didn’t enter an od Rewards number or anything.

I’ll use these for actual goods at buy buy baby (Baby and bed bath beyond use the same POS system and allow each other’s cards) or will buy gift cards for other stores or I’ll cash out at Panera for a Panera gift card during bonus time and will load the Panera card into mypanera app so I can easily run it down.

I’ve had no issues with using these cards anywhere they’re supposed to be used, just say “credit” to the cashier and swipe. Don’t make a big deal of it because you don’t need to confuse them unnecessarily.

Also note that you can return items and funds can go back into happy gift card balances. I’ve returned a Home Depot item and it went back into balance and was viewable online.

  • Avoid these dumb fixed-value CREDIT cards, especially with a lousy 10% discount. The problem is emptying them - you need to spend to the exact penny to empty them - thus you end up leaving a balance that's a pita to deal with. I bet Happy card issuers are enjoying huge breakage. Don't know why DoC continually posts these dumb offers....

    • You don't know why these deals are posted? Because YOU find them dumb and it's all about you? Guess what, other people with different opinions read these posts. Get over yourself.

    • The title of the thread is misleading. The deal is actually $10 off purchase of $100 or more. So you can buy a variable card for $105.95 or $206.95 or whatever.
Even if you had to buy a fixed card, you can still pay the $5.95 or whatever in cash or with a regular cashback CC

    • Because some people manage to get a $28 pure profit margin (incl. CC points) out of every two Happy GC's that they transform into a single $200 VGC?

I for one am "happy" ;) whenever I see these deals...

  • Purchased $100 happy teen card and flipped at barnes and noble for shell gas cards. Thanks Doc!

      • @guest_770733 I am curious about your experience using Happy cards at B&N. I have been tempted by Happy Teen before, but saw some negative DPs online about B&N cashiers not allowing use of Happies to buy GCs. I take it you haven't had issues? Can you share what geographic region you are in?

        • I'm in Atlanta. In my experience any gift card you attempt to buy with them $100+ they will ask to see the card and your driver's license. I try not to do that too much because they often call the manager up to the register too. There is one within 5 miles of me so I dont mind multiple trips or if they have more than one cashiers I try to get in line again to use up the card in one go. Never know when they will say NO.
The happy lady has worked for me at BBB, although, I havent tried in a while.

          • @guest_770733 Thanks very much for the info. It sounds like BBB is much less of a pain. I would say that I have issues at BBB about 10% of the time when using Happy Lady, which is a rejection rate I can definitely live with.

    • None of the Happy GC is valid at Lowe’s so it’s a moot point. But it would be valid if it was. Was able to use the Discover Hardware Stores GC at Lowe’s to purchase 3rd party GC.

  • Did a Kroger grocery store promo a while back $10 off $50 Happy Cards (all versions).
    This offer is overrated.
