[Expired] Office Depot/Max: $15 Instant Discount on $300 Visa Gift Card Purchases [4/14-4/20]

Deal has expired, view more Office Depot deals by clicking here

The Offer

  • Office Depot/Max stores are offering a $15 instant discount when you buy $300 in Visa gift cards.

The Fine Print

  • Valid 4/14 – 4/20/19
  • In store only
  • Limit of one

Our Verdict

This is the best version of this deal, sometimes it’s for Mastercard gift cards that are generally more difficult to unload and other times it’s for a discount of only $10 instead of $15. You can either purchase two $200 cards or one $200 and one $100. The variable load cards are cash only so won’t work. Normally you can do this deal multiple times in different transactions but YMMV. As always remember to use a card that earns at a high rate on office supply stores.

  • Does anyone else not getting chase ink 5× points on office depot purchases on April 20, 2019? I just noticed that i didn't get the extra 4x points on purchases made from 4/20 to 5/2. Purchases on 19 or after 5/2 were all posted correctly. I'm wondering if there was a glitch in their posting system.

  • Just called one of my local stores and they assured me that I could purchase the variable gift cards with credit card. May check it out.

  • Is there anybody got yelp tracked? I bought 2x200 at two stores yesterday and didn't see anything tracked. Charge was not posted yet.

    • My 4/15 purchase tracked (confirmed the 7% deal in the app for this location), 4/16 didn't see the 7% deal in my yelp but still went anyway and didnt track.

  • I went by Office Depot today. No one at the store knew about this promotion, they claimed it isn't from corporate and weren't even willing to try to run the transaction and see if the credit applies. They did have a good point tho: What kind of promotion is this if it's not advertised on their website? Is that just select stores? why won't they advertise it? I'll appreciate feedback on this. Thanks.

    • If you just buy the correct giftcards, the discount will apply. Don't bother asking about it, sometimes they have the display with it up, sometimes not, but either way if it is posted here it will almost certainly apply. No idea why OD chooses to market their giftcards this way.

      • I think they do it to get people to buy other items in their stores; sometimes I buy something else that I need from them, with a discount for being a member of OD. Also, it is better no asking anything about GCs advertisements. I always go to the store and grab 4 or more GCs and try to do several transactions to max out the promotion, in one case the cashier allowed me to do so in other instances the managers don't let this to happen, remember these stores have high rotation of personnel and you might able to get advantage of it.

  • @will Pei has 10% cashback for officemax/office depot in my area. YMMV if it shows in yours. Be Sure to check first.....

Also.... This is unrelated... but Pei seems to be picking up some of my cc charges and is categorizing them as store purchases, like as if I went to some place and used my card... I have a charge on my Wells Fargo that happens to have AMC in the charge description/name... I never went to AMC, but I know the charge is valid... Pei seems to think I went to AMC theaters, and gave me the cashback rate for an AMC...

  • If we use the yelp cashback promo for 7% cashback and also use the Chase ink cash card, will I only get the 7% off or will it track to chase as purchase at office stores resulting in 5x points?
Assume someone would surely have experience trying to stack these?

  • Do ODOM's track usage by credit card for a day? I went and got 2 VGCs this morning and wanted to possibly hit up the store mid day or in the evening, but am not going to if my transaction rings up later without a discount.

    • No, it does not.

Meaning as long as its not in the exact same transaction (e.g. buying 4 giftcards), you will get the discount each time.

      • You can do as many transactions as the manager / cashier allows. I have bought 6 GC's together in 3 different transactions of 2 each and they allowed it.
Said I cannot do more than that on same day.
But I believe its YMMV, since same store with different personnel, experience is different.

  • Just a DP that it seems like the system is hard coded to only give the $15 discount on a 2 VGC max transaction.

I though I snuck in four Grocery Anywheres by a cashier yesterday. When I got to my car I realized I was only discounted on the first 2 cards.

YMMV, but I would suggest splitting transactions up to two cards per transaction so you get the discount for each two cards.

    • @guest_748965 Years ago when discount was $30/$300, we were able to get $60 discounts for $600 purchase. IIRC, they enforced limit of 1 discount per $300 late 2016 or early 2017.

    • It's $15 on a minimum of $300 VGC. Anything over $300 per transaction still only gets one discount. So, yes, it's best to split transactions. However, many Office Max/Depot only allow one transaction per person. I figure if you buy three everywhere cards per transaction, you're still coming out slightly ahead with 1000 more points vs $5 saved.
