Our Verdict
This one is not showing up in the circular, but it’s appearing in stores, according to Frequentmiler. As always, it’ll be store dependent how many times they let you come back during the week.
The $15 discount more-than-covers the purchase fees. Lots of people like racking up their INK points or another card that offers a bonus at office supply stores. There’s also a fee-free deal at Staples this week as well.
Hat tip again to Frequentmiler

has anyone been able to get these vgc to work on Plastiq? I have $1k left on my student loans and trying to pay off using plastiq… it got declined even though I registered online and triple checked that all the numbers were correct... I don't want to buy more if I can't liquidate them easily... (I hate buying money orders for $199.31)
These back to back deals are killing my friendly OD.
I literally said to the cashiers at my closest OM on Saturday (when the similar MC promotion ended) "okay, guess you guys are done seeing me for a bit."
GUESS NOT.
I was not able to buy money order at my local Walmart stores. Lately I have been buying money order from Stop and Shop. 500 is the max amount. Could anyone know how many swipe I can do for one transaction? So far I did 3, is 4 the limit? I have a lot of $100 gift cards left,Thanks
Here is my 2c advise. Just use one card per transaction of money order. If you use more than one, it is easier to get caught and that will shut off future purchases. I am telling u from my experience.
Dang my local store is cracking down a bit. Well at least one of the managers is. Last time I was told I could only purchase them once. ) :
+1. This play is becoming more difficult every year.
eh, once per day, per store... I have like 6 stores that I can easily route to.
Man there are only 2 stores within reasonable driving distance for me. The one that is cracking down is literally 5 minutes from my house. The "grumpy" manager was there the other day and just looked at me without saying a word.
Oh Doc, some happy cards ( happy her, happy teen, happy eat,? Can't remember the last one) are also on sale this week - $15 off on $150 or more.
Will buy one 200 dining everywhere and one 100 fuel everywhere using INK cash, cost 300+4.95+3.95-15=292.9, about 9.7% off (UR=1.5 cent). Will use dining everywhere in Costco and Fuel everywhere in Safeway to buy Amazon GC (additional $3 off in fuel point).
Not arguing with your strategy. To each his own.
But if you have a Discover card, you'll be able to go on Costco.com in a few weeks to get Costco cash cards at a 5% discount. So you may want to consider another alternative.
Just a regular $200 VGC, for example, would be purchased at net $199.45. That's 997.25URs which at your valuation would be a 7.75% discount on everything everywhere if you plan to liquidate with purchases.
@guest_857900 I recommend you max the promotion out by buying 2x200 DE depending on your spend.
az, just need clarification on what you wrote. Can you confirm that you’re able to use Dining Everywhere at the Costco warehouse?
Sure, Both dining everywhere and home everywhere. Dining everywhere also supports local grocery store.

Thanks for that. I was heading to Costco tomorrow anyway to pick up some gift cards for gifts. Will stop by OD on the way.
How the hell do you sort this out
Can you be a little bit clearer on what your question is?
Can someone kindly answer a question I have been wondering? When you get lets say $3,000 worth of GCs in order to meet a minimum spend, what are some methods of liquidating?
I have a Bluebird and Serve card that I can use at Walmart. I just put load the GC's onto those and then transfer the funds to my bank.
I never had bluebird. Maybe i should open one.
Nope. You should open five. :D
You can use them to buy money orders are wmt or your local groc store for a small fee (usually <$1). I have never purchased a $1k MO using 5 $200 VGCs, but my friend has -- YMMV. I still have some BB and serve cards, so I'm able to use the $200 VGCs to load to them at wmt for 0 fee.
Most WM has 4 swipe max, so most likely you'll be doing $799.xx.
Is there a limit on how many MO you can do per day or per week at Walmart? I am new to the MO game, and I am trying to max out points on daycare and the mortgage.
@guest_858098 I suggest you read the wiki on this page: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/manufactured-spending/1885618-buying-money-orders-walmart-2018-a-55.html
I rarely buy mo from Walmart. Maybe once every 3 months. Last Friday when i tried to buy a $999.12 mo, the desk person asked for my ID. I was very surprised as i thought the ID requirement was for purchasing multiple money orders. So i asked her if it was a new change to the policy and she said, "how should i know? i just came back from a long vacation. I just do what the machine tells me to. " i ended up not buying because i hate to use ID for just one money order. Does anyone else has the same experience?
Yes. Some WM CSRs recently started to ask for my ID for MOs under the $1k threshold. I am currently blocked from purchasing MOs over $1k at WM. So select CSRs block me from purchasing MOs.
You have to show ID now for transactions over $1k.
But i was trying to buy $999.12. Doesn't make sense. And from her reaction and demeanor, didn't look like lying. Any ways, thank goodness there's krogers near by.
$999.12 + $0.88 fee = $1000.
It's really not that big of a deal to me. If it is to you, try $999.11.
$1000 is not over $1k. Lol. Seriously, i was never asked for ID when i bought $999.12 ($1k with fee) before. The one time i was asked for ID was when i bought 4×$999.12. And it took forever for them to key in the info; also they asked for my social security number and my occupation. I don't mind going through all this hassle for 4 MOs, but not for just one.
I don't work for Walmart. I don't set the rules. Just trying to help you understand. If you don't like showing your ID for a money order, then I guess you're done buying MO's at WM because the screen can randomly ask for it for any amount now.
Your last sentence has solved the puzzle! Thanks for your information. You obviously are very knowledgable about the Walmart's system. I'm grateful for your help.
That 'machine is telling me' thingy used to be an excuse. Not sure if it still is
Depending on the card you're trying to meet minimum spend (e.g. Amex) buying these GCs may not count towards your MSR for the SUB.
As for liquidating, they have the Visa logo, but more importantly, are considered "debit". I used to pay my property taxes with these because they were "debit" cards; I'm sure if you study a bit, you'll find lots of uses for debit cards that the average person doesn't think about.
True this. However lots of merchants start treating these cards as "credit" due to swipe fee. I found out hard way :( can no longer pay KOHLS Charge bill in store with these card starting December.
You could use the money to pay bills or pay ahead. There's always Ebay, Square, or apps for selling the gift cards. Some places will let you buy a money order, then you could deposit the money into an account. This site and others has a lot of information. It's best to research what's best for you.
Please change MC to Visa in Fine Print section
Fixed, thank you
