The Offer
Check your Office Depot/Max store for the following deal:
- Purchase $300 in Mastercard gift cards and get $15 discounted instantly at the register.
The Fine Print
- Limit 1 per household/business
- In-store only
Our Verdict
You can buy two $200 Mastercard gift cards or one $200 and one $100 Mastercard gift card. Best way to maximize is to buy three $200 Mastercards. Remember, MetaBank increased the fee on $200 Mastercard gift cards from $6.95 to $7.95.
These deals are made better when you use a card that earns at a high rate at office supply stores. Or use your Amex Business Gold card for the $20 credit. There’s also a Chase Offer for 10% back or the same with other bank offers. Also, Dosh offers 2% back, though they exclude gift cards in the terms.

Can someone clarify for me how the "best way to maximize is to buy three $200 Mastercards"? The following is based on a $6.95 fee per card and the current 15% off up to $10 offer on Chase Ink cards, but even if the fee were $7.95 per card and there is no $10 offer available, I'm not on the same page that 3 MCs is the best play.
3x $200 MCs ($600 in value for $553.44)
$620.85 purchase price
$15.00 instant discount
$10.00 Chase offer
$42.41 UR value ($0.014 per); (($620.85 - $15.00) * 5) * $0.014
7.76% discount
vs.
2x $200 MCs ($400 in value for $360.98)
$413.90 purchase price
$15.00 instant discount
$10.00 Chase offer
$27.92 UR value ($0.014 per); (($413.90 - $15.00) * 5) x $0.014
9.75% discount
Regardless of the above question, I'd still much prefer to get 22% off of non MCGCs:
1x Non-Categorical Spend GC (eBay, for example; $66.66 in value for $51.99)
$66.66 purchase price
$10.00 Chase offer
$4.67 UR value ($0.014 per); (($66.66 * 5)) * $0.014
22.01% discount
You can buy the MCs at Office Depot, then turn around and use the same MCs to buy the non-categorical GCs to stack again wherever makes sense. I do things like that to unload the visa/MC and get grocery store points or what have you (usually Amazon or a gas GC). Right now Zift and Zillions GCs seem to be the rage and I’m finding $20 CVS rewards for $100 purchase. One Zift card even had Amazon as a trade in option.
This might be the best comment I've ever read on DoC! VGC/MC liquidation has easily become my biggest hindrance.
I think there's a lot of gatekeeping of latest MS methods, for good reason. I don't MS but intrigued
If you buy 3 x $200 you get $30 instant discount.
It's $15 per $300.
Thanks...now I see that mentioned in some earlier comments as well. For my calculations, that makes it a 10.09% discount for the 3 GCs scenario vs. the 9.75% discount for the 2 GCs. I'll stick with the non-categorical spend GCs.
All depends on individual needs. I have no use for third party cards so the higher discount is moot. Another plus for me is that my OD location sometimes lets me split tender across cards to double up on offers.
Is there a daily limit for this, per store, per CC? I just bought 6 $200 ones today and they recorded my DL info.
Not sure about the daily limit. But I believe the manager has to override the restriction (?) if it's over $500, and they take your DL information if it's over $1000.
So I could’ve gotten like 9 $200s? I see in other GC promos there’s a daily 8 GC limit and didn’t want to be sus on this one.
So I've gone a couple times to the office Depot near me and I go when either the Visa or MasterCard promotions are going on and both of those times they wouldn't honor it like 6 months ago
They told me it's not working or they don't know anything about it
In the past I probably bought at least 60 to 80 cards with them in the lapse of 2 years
Also how can I find the weekly ad if I go on their website I do not know how to find it?
Does this discount still work on variable-load ($20 – 200) mastercards?
I know it does on Visa so I would think it would MC.
Do they sell these QR code/hologram BHN cards?
Anyone successfully purchased MC gift cards with promotion? I went to local OD this morning but it didn't give discount so I didn't purchase. The manager had a promo advertisement on his hand and couldn't figure out why. He emailed to the upper echelon and later informed me that they acknowledged this has been an ongoing problem today and working on solving this issue. I will try tomorrow.
It worked for me today (Monday 11/18) in California, for 3 $200 fixed value MCGCs ($7.95 fee), minus $30 discount = $593.85
I went back to the store today and the promo discount applied this time. I made same transaction as yours, picked up 3 $200 for $593.85.
Discount failed to apply for me today as well. OH.
Same thing here in NC. Manager said it should be a deal week, but since computer wasn’t giving the discount there wasn’t anything he could do. Will have to try tomorrow
Same happened to me in AL. I tried buying three variable-load ($20 - 200) mastercards ($6.95 fee each). The discount did not appear this time.
Same exact thing happened to me today, worst part is once this happens they have to get of the cards you were trying to purchase and if your store was already running low on them thats another problem
Worked for me in Texas
Where in Texas? I live in Killeen (North of Austin) and it didn't work here.
Anyone ever have an issue where the card won't swipe? Have a Mastercard that I can't get to register at the terminal. Tried three different stores and each time, just didn't do anything but was able to use an identical card. Would I be able to get a replacement or am I relegated to using online only. Metabank Mastercard.
@guest_1383351 I had an issue like this with a card I bought at a supermarket a few years ago. Turned out that it had been intentionally demagnetized by a fraudster. By the time I called BHN, it had already been drained. Fortunately, I was able to get a replacement card from BHN after a dispute. If you need a physical card, I would call BHN ASAP and have them freeze the card and send a replacement. If you don't need a physical card, dump the entire balance into a utility bill online ASAP before it gets drained.
@guest_1953556 Found out they were 24/7 and was a rather painless phone call (shockingly). Thanks again. You too @guest_1953547
Thank you. I have checked the card a few times since I bought it a week or so ago and it's still good, so far. I don't have an online need for anything anytime soon so I will call them first thing in the morning.
Sounds like you card was demagnetized and yes you should be able to get a replacement, Id call as soon as possible
@6 Saw sign for this deal in store today. Valid 11/17-11/23. Actually ran in for a different gift card.
Thanks, posted
The online site refused to let me register the darn things. Had to call in. Which did work. But doesn't feel secure. I'm not a fan of these at all
Ended up using them to pay upcoming bill with major insurance company. They didn't need them registered, just accepted them
Got 3 x 200 because each had limit of 200 at mine. Each got 10 taken off at register. Not advertised anywhere. Person had to rip them open to scan and only then confirmed
My rent rent portal refused to accept these. Car insurance did with no problem
