The Offer
Check your Office Depot/Max store for the following deal:
- Buy $300 in Visa gift cards and get $15 discounted instantly at the register.
The Fine Print
- In-store only
Our Verdict
Buy a $200 Visa gift card and a $100 Visa gift card or buy two $200 Visa gift cards. The best way to maximize is to buy three $200 Visa gift cards. It should be possible to get more than one $15 discount in a single checkout.
Fees are $5-$8 per card, but can be more-than-offset by this $15 instant discount. They usually offer a deal the week following Staples.
Use a card like the INK Cash/Plus which earns 5x at office supply stores. Also note, Dosh offers 2% back at Office Depot/Max and Rakuten in-store offers 5x/5%, though the terms on these exclude gift cards from earning. Some people might have a Chase Offer/Bank Amerideals for Office Depot as well.

Is this still ongoing?
Well, it's currently 11/7.
I have 3 offers with 3 Chase cards, does OfficeDepot allow split payment? thanks
Location/cashier specific. Some do, some don't. All you can do is ask.
Went to another store today and they have lot of cards available, but cashier refused to split the payment. Told him I was able to use it last month. He kept on arguing and asked him to check with his manager. Manager came over and said yes you can split the payment and the guy apologized and proceeded with it
Does anyone by chance have the picture of this promotion? The store manager in my store only allowed 2 cards for the whole week, even officially it's 10. I always got pissed off by that arrogant guy.
Hey Chris, The store managers always have the last word on VGC limit, payment types, and whether a customer can make the purchase. One OD manager said only 1 promo purchase per week. Another OD manager set the store limit to only 5 VGCs per day. YMMV...Good luck!!!
Thanks for your response. I looked for the promotion picture this week and will show it to the manager when I visit the store again. They should honor it. They should have received it from corporate but just never placed it on the gift card rack. The store is quite disorganized, and the staff has been rude.
Any idea if this works with visa grocery anywhere gift card?
Yes i Think it will, i once bought the version for clothes and it worked. I bought it by mistake bc the fee was lower.
none of these cards in so cal same with mc last week 4 different stores
Try Temple City, they are behind the counter.
Just want to confirm that this offer is in place? I went to Office Depot today, and it did not apply the sale, so I didn’t purchase.
didnt get the discount on 3x visa gc today either. 10/28.
It worked for me.
Yeah tried again today and it didn’t work, not sure if CA is doing something different
Went to one store in the LA area where it didn't work, and the cashier said they weren't on sale this week (they didn't get the sale sign to put up on the card display rack). Went to another store, it had the sale sign up, and the discount worked.
My nearby store still did not work, so it is a store issue all over the country? This is real strange.
Most stores work--sounds like a regional issue. Are you in CA?
No, WA. One person also posted not working in a DC/VA store.
Can confirm as of Mon 10/28 sale is on. Did not try the 5% back cards though.
That's odd. Did you go all the way to the form of receipt that you have to choose (email or print) and still no discount?
Yeah I did, they were the 5% back cards, which is $10-$200 amounts. Not sure if that was the problem
It didn’t work today for me either :/
I think you supposed to get the ones with set amounts to get the discount (200,100). Not the variable amounts
Variables work fine
@guest_1417622 So I tried a variable reload card today (attempted to buy three $200 variable load Visa cards), and the discount is NOT get applied.
Went all the way through to the point of entering my credit card and the expected $30 did not register on the terminal. First time that variable load has not worked for me.
No issues here all week.
I don't think that's the reason. I purchased 5% back Visa cards before but didn't have any problem getting a discount.
Same thing happened to me in a store in the VA DC area.
I find that you have to let the purchase complete out. Then the discount is applied. I will try on Monday. I did not attempt a purchase today.
Thanks for DP. There have been error reports once in a while before. Should have worked today if it’s on.
yes inventory is often bad. many $100 or variables but hardly any $200. Why run these promotions pretty much back to back now
There is a reason inventory is always bad on these cards. People are taking them off the racks and hording them at home. Then when there is a promotion going on, they bring them back in to the store and buy them. It sucks that people do this and they re committing theft.
That is a dangerous thing to attempt. Looks like fraud if you get caught bringing the cards back into the store.
And the gain is still chump change even if you do hundreds of these. Laughable.
My store had 200$ Visa last week when the mgc promotion was going on, not the mgc. Today when I went they are all out of them. In the past they always used to have inventory. But in the last few months it's difficult to find them.
I’ve been told that people bring gift cards from other stores (grocery stores have a lot of these) and purchase it there.
Anybody try these 5% back Visa gcs? My OD doesn't have any $200s except these.
5back has worked for 200 swipe for me.
yes, all the time. no issues personally, but others may have different experiences.
Visa is back this week. However my location literally never has $200 in stock and barely any $100.
Thanks for helping a sister out. I hope your store gets stocked soon. We always have to ask them to check the box behind the counter.
(I think they keep them off the rack to prevent theft/fraud at ours)
Deal is back this week. Confirmed at this OD in Va
