Our Verdict
They usually offer a deal the week following Staples. If you buy a $200 Visa gift card and a $100 Visa gift card, the total will come out to $297.90; or buy two $200 Visa gift cards for a total of $398.90. Use a card like the INK Cash/Plus which earns 5x at office supply stores. Dosh offers 2% back at Office Depot/Max, though the terms exclude gift cards from earning.

Called local OD/OM in Arroyo Grande and they said there was no evidence of this sale. Anyone have an ad or promo?
Just go to the store and ring up $300 it automatically comes off the price. No ad or promo needed…trust the Doc
Went to OD/OM this morning … local store would not sell (Visa) gift cards using credit cards??? Said they would accept only debit or check or cash! What the heck is this something new? They said it was new OD/OM policy because of fraud, etc. I halfway think he was BS’ing me … anyone else had similar issues?
One store near me told me Cash only, so i gave up. I think it's unique store policy until you make it change. Most stores allow cc buying visa gift cards.
Up to yesterday, the 2% cash back Dosh works, today with 6% cash back for OD/OM, but not working :(
IMO... your card would more than likely be flagged for potential fraud. Just be aware that you may be forced to call Chase to unlock your card and potentially explain why you are going to 5 different Office Depot stores and charging exactly the same amount each time. Good luck!
You are definitely better off spreading out your spending over a week's time rather than trying to do several purchases at different stores on the same day. In about 2 days, you should be ok to go back and buy another gift card or two again without raising any red flags.
Lot's of factors to consider. No one can say for sure.
Should there be ads in the store for this deal? Or should I assume my Office Depot/Max was this deal?
You will be an ass and the ump will shun you.
My store did not have a display this time which they always do so I asked an associate and he was able to talk to his manager who confirmed there was a sale.
I'm happy :)
Only $2400 since we missed a day, but still...

In the past, yes. Not lately. Not since mid-spring. Been two Staples V & MC deals since the last OD. Then again, going forward, make it so. (Maybe the two month lull was the fruit of the latest speculation about an od/staples merger. May that never happen)
Last time I was in my local OD/OM they were out of $100s and $200s as usual. An employee told me that the store didn't order cards or keep them stocked. Someone else who isn't part of OD/OM comes into the store periodically to restock them, so maybe they aren't aware of when OD/OM has the sales. Either way, stocked or out of stock, the point is to get you into the store. So no one seems to care that much if they run out.
I'm pretty sure that "somebody" is Blackhawk, like many other stores
Neither knows what the other is doing
Also seems like a bait and switch if you ask me.
Got spoiled with $1000 max limit for staples using ink cash, that now debating if worth a trip for only $400.
Plus an additional $7.98 via Dosh, so about 80% worth it.
If store(s) are nearby why not? It's a good moneymaker if you can liquidate.
@Kyle ink cash cards have $25k annual limit. In other words, 25 trips to staples @ 4/ week = 6 sale weeks spread thru the year. This is usually the case so why bother with smaller amounts
