The Offer
- Giftcardmall via Officedepot.com is selling up to $500 Visa gift card with no purchase fees
Our Verdict
You also get free trackable shipping. This will not code as Office Supply since it’s processed through Giftcardmall, so just use any regular credit card. Portals won’t work either, presumably.

How did some of you get a refund? My credit card dispute got denied even after presenting all the evidence that they entered a phony tracking number in December 2020 and kept lying when called and never shipped anything.
I got a refund finally, I had to call and complain again, so much nonsense and took over 3 months to get my $5,000 back.
I never received my original orders from December. I called a few weeks ago and they said they would send out both orders. I received one of them about 2 weeks ago. I called again yesterday and today I get an email saying that I they issued a refund but nothing on my card yet.
Order made on 12/15/20 was refunded today 2/5/21.
too bad this is over. I got 6 or 7 cards during this offer. The first one from mid Dec was a little slow to confirm and ship, but the rest were received promptly, all within a week of my order, and no problems liquidating at local grocery stores for MOs.
Appears that deal is dead. Went online attempting to buy another $500 and the $5.95 card fee is tacked on.
I am wondering if anyone is STILL waiting on their order from mid December or am I the only one? I called about a week ago and was told I would receive an email and my order but so far nada. Frustrating since I have over $1K tied up in this debacle.
Exact same boat. Called last week to re-issue the cards that never arrived; was promised an email with new order #; never came. Called back this week and was told they're backlogged re-issuing orders.
Same, they have told me for two consecutive weeks that they are in the process of sending out replacement cards and would send me shipping information in the next couple days but I still don't have a new order number or shipping information. If this wasn't Blackhawk/ODOM I would have asked for a refund weeks ago assuming it was not legitimate.
Yeah this has been just, a total fustercluck with CSRs that have basically no information. My first order was supposedly shipped in december, but mysteriously with no tracking number. Then my order was supposedly re-issued, but also never shipped/no tracking. After many calls and escalating to some supervisor's manager, I was told they had some quality issues where the cards being printed or pressed or whatever was off, and so they had to redo it and as mentioned by other posts they're backlogged. I wouldn't mind so much if they hadn't billed my card immediately vs billed when shipped, but it's pretty crappy of them to bill you and not ship your order 1mo+ later.
Another week another "escalated" call where they say they are still waiting for approval to reissue but "hopefully within 3-5 days" and a promise to email or call me either way (but not actually follow up).
They refunded the amount without another call or email. What a s***show. Thankfully I wasn't relying on this for a MSR but now have a large negative balance.
Mine is being refunded to an AMEX gift card I used to pay for the original order. I would have preferred to have gotten the cards! Oh well...
$5k (500 x 10) office depot gift cards were declined again ( 2nd day in a row). They are cancelling the order, not my card. Any suggestions?
A CSR previously suggested to clear my cookies / cache but that doe nothing. Should I call and have them create a case to investigate?
Retried for a $1k order. Cancelled again. Sent giftcard mall a message asking whats going on.
CSR suggested I use a different email. Very difficult communicating with these people.
$5k order ($500 x 10) was declined today (they declined, not my card). CSR only excuse was "their system was overloaded) which I am not sure make sense.
Maybe I will try again tomorrow.
Has anyone bought this thru the Rakuten 2% link? Will it trigger the cash back?
Ok, this is crazy. I placed an order for $5k on the 15th. Charge posted right away. Today I get not one but two packages with $5k in each 😳 and all active. What the heck do I do now??? I mean who wouldn’t love a $5k windfall!!?? My wife and I figure they will either charge me for the order or ask for the cards back soon. Anyone ever have this happen?
Exact same thing happened to me- but on 2 orders. One for $3k, and one for $1k (I was maxing out the Barclays 10x rewards promotion). BOTH orders were sent twice, so I now have 4 orders totaling $8k- so a $4k windfall. (Another $1k order I made did NOT get duplicated.) All the cards are active and have the full $500 balance. Really not sure what to do, but I'm pretty sure they can't just charge our cards without our permission when we didn't agree to the bigger purchase. Anyone have experience with anything like this?!
Beauty, eh! They sent me an extra $5k in cards activated; but I only liquidated 2500 before they deactivated the last 5. Nice margin, tax-free!
Here is the interesting thing......
According to the FTC website: ... According to the Federal Trade Commission, you don't have to pay for it. Federal laws prohibit mailing unordered merchandise to consumers and then demanding payment... If you receive merchandise that you didn't order, you have a legal right to keep it as a free gift.
**My only concern would be the relationship with the vendor could be burned forever. A mighty painful error on their part if they get stuck on this.
Interesting. While it makes sense they can't demand payment- since if they could, companies would be able to force anyone to buy their things- might they be able to demand that the merchandise be returned?
This is probably why Amazon lets you keep things that you receive in error. My thoughts on this law is that it's to protect ppl from companies that are intentionally trying to do this to force consumers to pay for products. What about things sent in error? The good thing to do would be return it. But, what if it inconveniences the consumer? Sucks for companies like them who truly sent products in error. I don't understand why they just can't deactivate the cards, though.
Maybe they CAN deactivate the card after they're shipped, I'm not sure. But what happens if the cards get used up before they discover the error? And btw, a customer could do this without realizing they got sent extra cards, especially if ordering a lot of cards on a regular basis. Interesting case for sure.
When this happened to me, the store rep actually tt BHN, but it was to find out what happened to my stalled order. That's when she discovered that the order was still being shipped, even though they canceled and refunded the order. They really should have deactivated the card at that point since, by the rep's own admission, they couldn't charge my card again---and the card was still being shipped. I think that they have the capability, otherwise, what happens when ppl report cards lost/stolen? I'm just guessing that the employees who are coming across these issues don't have the sense to escalate to someone who can deactivate the cards.
I'm also wondering who takes that loss. I received an email template from the store saying that I could keep/donate the item from the order that was canceled. If it's the store that takes the loss, then I could see why BHN doesn't go out of their way to deactivate the cards. The store probably just considers this a normal, everyday write-off.
What a mess. I'm still waiting on my order from 12/14 and others are getting 2x. If they catch the error I assume they'd zero out the duplicate card(s).
IANAL but I would think if you use both of sets before they caught the error they could mail an invoice to you that needs to be paid (even if they can't actually charge your card without another authorization). The right thing is probably to call them before using either and then they would cancel one set of the cards as allegedly they know which cards numbers were sent with each order.
Did you call at some point to complain about the delay and they shipped it again? If not, that is very odd.
That's what happened to me. I'm surprised that they still have this horrible system in place. Maybe after this loss, they'll fix it.
I'm going to sound like a hypocrite bc I actually kept my duplicate cards, which they let me keep. But, it was just a few hundred dollars. A five thousand dollar loss might cause someone their job. :(
Are you saying you told them about the duplicate shipment and they told you to keep the extra gc?
Made no contact other than placing the single order online.
