The Offer
- Open a new checking account with WesBanco and receive up to $200 in bonuses. Bonus payment is broken down as follows:
- $25 for opening account
- $25 for debit card use (15 debit card transactions)
- $25 for signing up to eStatements
- $25 for direct deposit (must make at least two direct deposits of at least $200)
- $25 for mobile deposit ($0.5 charge per mobile deposit applies)
- $25 for online bill pay (must pay at least two bills)
- $50 for referring a friend
- This account must be opened in person, there is no way to sign for up for an account online. Click for branch locator, WesBanco have branches in the following states:
- Ohio
- Pennsylvania
- West Virginia
The Fine Print
- Existing WesBanco customers cannot sign up for this promotion
- Customers that have received a new account opening or debit card usage bonus from WesBanco before are not eligible
- Funds transferred from existing WesBanco accounts are not eligible
- Minimum account opening balance is $50
- $25 opening bonus will be paid within 90 days of account opening
- All other bonuses must be completed within 90 days of account opening
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Their basic checking product has a monthly fee of $4 which is waived if you enroll in paperless statements (which is necessary to trigger $25 of the bonus anyway). They do not post their full fee schedule online, so we are unable to tell if they charge an early account termination fee or not. We’ve contacted them to request this fee schedule.
Our Verdict
WesBanco has offered bonuses as high as $220 in the past (but not since 2010), this the best offer they have had recently. According to a previous deal there is no limit on the number of referrals you can do, so this could be an extremely profitable deal for those who can convince friends & family members to sign up for an account. Update: The maximum number of referrals varies by branch, some have a hard limit of 2 whilst others have no limit.
Unfortunately I don’t live within the service area otherwise I’d probably get in on this deal. It’s a bit annoying that there are so many different requirements that need to be completed to hit the full $200 bonus though. We’ve added this to our state specific checking deals, it didn’t make the best of list due to the geographical requirements and the fact you must open in branch.
