  • Offer is for new checking customers only.

Avoiding Fees

Everything Checking Account $5 Monthly

The Everything checking account has a $5 monthly fee, it’s waived if either of the following conditions is met:

  • Six payments via check, Online Banking bill payments, Telephone Banking bill payments, ACH debit, or Point of Sale transactions (both signature or PIN based) posted to the account.
  • You have an average checking balance of $2,500 or more

Early Account Termination Fee

Need to keep account open for one year to get full bonus, but $25/180 EATF otherwise.

Our Verdict

Bigger bonus we’ve seen before is $400. This is a slightly different offer, but still very much worth doing in my opinion. It’s annoying you need to keep the account open for a full year to get the full bonus. I’ll be adding this to our list of the best checking bonuses. There is also a $400 bonus for military members.

  • Opened an account in branch today in Ohio. They ran a Chex report, which I was worried about as I was denied by keybank 2 weeks back. Nothing negative on my report just a lot of new accounts.

  • How do you know you actually qualify for the $300 debit card reimbursement?
Can you do the debit card purchase(s) in increments?
I don't want to try a $5 debit card purchase and lose the other $295. I'm not even sure I qualified and I don't feel it's best to call them.
Thank You and greatly appreciate the answers.

    • I se the fine print states:
      >>Up to $600 is available in one $300 Mastercard debit card rebate and one $300 credit.<<
Still not sure if this means accumulative?

      • They're not going to cheat you out of $295 because you did a $5 charge. That's not how banks operate.

I assume it's cumulative but why not just load $300 to cash app or PayPal and be done?

Notice my data point below that they pay out the same day as the charge posts. If you really want to do individual charges I imagine you'll see a $300 rebate once you get to $300 in spending.. Just like when you have a credit card that requires a minimum spend requirement.

        • Thanks Gadget!
I never did a load to PayPal but I'll take your advice and try it as I think that is very solid advice.
          Thanks again!

          • Done!
            Thanks Gadget!!!
I'll post whether I it worked. My DDs may not have worked.
It's pending now so I'll see tom. and give it a few days.

          • It should work. What did you use for the DD and did the DD show up as DIR in online banking? I recall them being pretty lenient on what they accept as a DD, so you will probably be good to go. @guest_1940896

I always like to save my real shopping for my CC. Missing out on $300 in credit card spending costs you money in lost rewards, so you could have considered buying a money order with the debit card.

          • Schwab and Fidelity both showed DIR, Ally did not.
Couldn't connect AMEX so could not try.
I transferred over $5,000 from all three then waited a week or so then withdrew about $14,500.
Hopefully tom. when it posts or Friday I'll get the credit.

I'm the same way Gadget. I never thought about the PayPal scenario and I love it so I'm immensely appreciative.I did not even know I could do that but it's actually the easiest and least hassled way.

          • There are so few DP's, but I think you are good to go with Schwab and Fido. Unless I got super lucky on the exact day of the week they look for payouts, you should be paid the $300 right away.

          • Excellent! It worked like a charm so I'm thanking you again Gadget! This was the absolutely best, easiest, and quickest way esp. because I don't need another gift card which what I was going to do.
            >>10/31/2024 ONL DEBIT CARD PURCHASE REBATE +$300.00<<

  • DP: Treasury Direct works as a DD. PayPal Savings online debit card load works as debit spend. (I was planning to buy a money order locally, but PayPal saved me a $1)

09/18/24 $50 Opening Deposit in branch.
10/21/24 $5,100 T-Bill disbursement posts as "DIR APA TREAS 310 9101036151 BR MISC PAY"
10/25/24 Pulled most of the money out via ACH pull
10/29/24 -$301 debit card load online to PayPal Savings posts as "POS MC PAYPAL 'LASTNAME' BR 4029357733 CA".
10/29/24 $300 "ONL DEBIT CARD PURCHASE REBATE"

Although dated the same date, the PayPal debit was done the day prior.

Reducing balance to about $50 and I'm using 6 small $1.xx ACH pulls scheduled per month to keep fee free. Will wait it out ~12 more months to get my other $300.

My P2 will probably try to churn next year, (covertly... due to HH rule). It would probably be better if she uses a different promo code, but DP's welcome if I am being too cautious.

EDIT: Also, DP: Recurring DD not enforced. No other deposits to the account were made, not even trials.

      • Last time I had an account I was using Wings CU. This time using Lending Club LevelUp Savings.

I have $1 pulled weekly, and $1.01 pulled bi weekly, scheduled.

I will just need to replenish that $50 at some point this year. And, eventually I will need to remember to manually end the scheduled transfers when it's time to close up shop. @guest_1942522

  • Did 3x ~$2000 ACH from WF, last one occurring end of August. Bought ~$300 Whole Foods gift card online via debit. No bonus as of 10/25/24. Not looking good, supposed to credit within 40 days of DD and now outside that window. Prob won't qualify for the annual bonus either since it does seem to require that you qualified for the debit bonus. This one is a pain in the ass too because of the required billpays to avoid a fee. Argh.

  • Maryland has been added to their list of states... @will Title & Availability adjustment please.

However, keep in mind DP's show that you have to be within a reasonable distance (50 miles?) from your nearest branch. The two branches I see in MD are kind of out in the sticks.

Per the Dollar Bank website footer:

Dollar Bank serves areas surrounding northeast Ohio, western Pennsylvania, the Hampton Roads community in Virginia and the Cumberland Narrows community in Maryland.

    • You aren't kidding about in the sticks. They have two branches in Cumberland, so basically they're covering everything west of (but not including) Hagerstown, which means they're covering about 57k people out of a population of 6.1 million. Can't imagine why they didn't have one branch in Cumberland and the other in Frederick or Hagerstown and bring some actual population into it.

  • Was able to open in branch with very high chex, no questions asked. Banker confirmed that he applied the $600 offer, I'll probably send an SM to confirm.

  • Cash App worked for the Debit Purchase.I completed the 5k using real direct deposits first. I did a $300 Cashapp add… next day $300 ONL DEBIT CARD PURCHASE REBATE POSTED

    • Did you keep the 5k DD in there for a couple of days? I just had my first half post today and the next one is in 2 weeks. So wondering if I can remove the first half

      • @guest_1941247 @guest_1935990 I did not do the 5k Direct deposit all at once. it was various amounts that added up to 5k because I was simultaneously doing other bonuses. I did do the Cash App reload a week or two after the 90 days from the account opening. I'm not saying it needs to be that way but that is my data point.

    • hello, how many days did you wait to do the $300 cashapp load after completing the 5K direct deposit, thanks

  • Opened in branch today. Past customer, 2nd Churn. Last account was about 1.5 years ago. When I last tried to open an account online with Dollar Bank in Nov 2023, I was denied and told I would have to go to a branch, so didn't waste my time or another Chex hit trying from home. Online banking, I was able to use my old credentials to see my account instantly.

Banker had to ask supervisor if he should make me as a New Customer because I was still in the system, but past accounts were not showing up for the banker. They went with "New".

Also, when putting in promo code, banker had to get supervisor's credentials to approve it. They muttered something about it being "Direct Mail" offer. Supervisor approved it without asking me questions. That makes me think the bank intended for promo code DM600 be for mail recipients of the offer. However, it's not in the terms that I see (screen captured it today too). I didn't want to ask questions and get them to question it... just be advised doing so can open a can of worms. Promo CHK24 is still running concurrently.

Nothing in the account opening paperwork shows the promo code or bonus disclosures... so I just have to take their word for it. They do email you a link to download the disclosure files.

Noticed on the bankers screen he had a Qualifile (Chex Score) tab. I didn't bother to ask about it. Chex inquiries (not including Dollar Bank): 2/1, 2/2, 3/3, 7/6, 17/12, 31/24.

    • I am at VA too, but the closest branch is 3 hours away. I applied online denied. Do you think if i drove to branch can open account?

      Which branch did you go?

      • Could depend on the banker you get.... But they very well could turn you away. I would call before making the trip and ask. I am 3 miles to the nearest branch, so distance was not an issue.

        • Could you referral me? It may be too late. I am at branch now just saw a referral form.from.

The banker said I can give her on Monday?

          • I could, yes. But there is no automated way to do it. @guest_1926181

"Referral links are currently not allowed here. Some users have their own websites (if you click their username) to list their referral links." (Direct quote that was allowed on another page.)

          • Thank you very much. Yes. The banker already made a referral form in my account and she will add your information to that form.
            I will send you email.
