Avoiding Fees

Monthly Fees

They offer a free checking account with no monthly fees to worry about.

Early Account Termination Fee

Wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any EATF, but given there is no monthly fee might as well keep the account open.

Our Verdict

Great deal if you can do this and Central Bank. Requirements are easy to meet making this bonus worth doing.

  • Can confirm that you can NOT stack the Central and Jefferson bonuses anymore. Opened a Central and Jefferson bank account on the same day –both accounts successfully opened (welcome emails sent with account #s from both banks), but I was never able to successfully log into my online account with Jefferson (kept getting error messages). A couple days later received a letter in the mail from Jefferson about account closure and stating “due to the status of your relationship with our financial institution, we kindly ask that you refrain from conducting any business on this account”. Seems as if the Central account is still open though, so it seems I am still eligible for that bonus at least.

  • Just a heads up, I live in Chicago and was able to open an account, fully get through the setup like normal, and fund it with a $50 transfer. Today I noticed I was having trouble logging in, and it turns out they closed my account because I don't live in their footprint. No word on how I'll get my $50 back though.

  • Located in Kansas. Opened the account 1/26. Opening deposit drafted. Received a letter in the mail dated 1/27 that they closed the account. I've had multiple accounts in the past through their sister bank, CentralBank of the Midwest.
Disappointing and won't be trying P2 given the comments below that they're only allowing Jefferson County applicants.
Someone was able to successfully open and receive the bonus based on a comment in the CentralBank thread from both them and Jefferson Bank but perhaps DOC resulted in a flood of applicants and they shut it all down.

  • ok, they are telling you to call in if you don't live in/around Jefferson City but you live in MO. They will deny those in STL and send you to Central Bank unless you tell them you plan to move and potentially support this. FYI.

    • account closed 1/28 "due to nature of relationship with bank" guessing they didn't like me having acct at both banks

      • Same for me... both Central/Jefferson accounts successfully opened on the same day but then received the same letter as you in the mail from Jefferson a few days later.

  • Seems Chex sensitive. Denied even with high Check score. No other red flags 🤷🏼‍♂️
