The Offer
- PayPal is offering some users 20% – 50% off Coinbase transaction fees.
Our Verdict
At this first glance this looks to be a fantastic deal, but it’s only off Coinbase fees and not the actual crypto purchases. Just posting so people don’t get caught out.

Thanks for posting this warning. My Paypal account has a 50% cashback offer on Coinbase with no further information. I almost jumped on the deal!
I don't see a way to activate or enroll in the offer. Is it tied to my account automatically?
Curious partnership given PayPal has their own (very limited) crypto platform. Maybe they’ll use it for data mining to understand their competitors better?
It's not a fantastic deal because the fees on the Pro are significantly less even after 50% off. If you prefer the regular Coinbase interface for monitoring your holdings then buy on Pro and do the free instant transfer to regular.
Can you actually deposit via paypal on pro? I never thought you could.
Even with 50% off, Coinbase fees are still higher than Gemini or Kraken.
Use coinbase pro
Do you have to have $10k in their crypto in order for it to have lower fees?
Coinbase Pro is more expensive than both Gemini and Kraken. Even with 50% off.
Coinbase pro is .5% , and it looks like Gemini activetrader platform is about the same, and slightly more actually
I'm sorry but you're wrong. Gemini Activetrader fee is 0.25%, and Kraken is even lower at 0.16%. If you use API which I do Gemini fees actually become only 0.1%.
I like being wrong. It means I learn something new
ok but the main gemini retail is 3% and activetrader doesnt even have an app and their trading pairs are limited so youre not fully right...only thing kraken is good for is to place buy orders 75% below current price n hope for a scam wick due to their pathetic liquidity.
What API do you use for Gemini?
What do you use for USD deposits at Kraken?
Kraken has withdrawal fees, but Gemini allows up to 10 free withdrawals per month. Strike app is the best. No fees for both trading (negligible price spread) and withdrawals. In the past 5 years, I went from Coinbase -> Coinbase Pro -> Gemini -> Strike.
I’m attempting to send all my coinbase to gemini but the fees are high lol
