The Fine Print

  • PayPal will give up to $1.5M dollars in total donations and $10,000 per charity over the course of the promotion. Must use your Valid Account to complete a donation through the PayPal mobile app to PayPal Giving Fund. Ends 6/29/2020 at 11:59:59 p.m. PT or when the donation cap has been reached, whichever is earlier. Limit: 1 donation per person and per Valid Account. Donations will be made to PayPal Giving Fund, an IRS-registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and granted to your recommended charity pursuant to its Donation Delivery Policy. Contribution may be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Consult your tax advisor to understand your specific circumstances. No goods or services will be provided in exchange for your donation. PayPal reserves the right to deny a donation for any reason at its sole discretion. See full terms and conditions, and PayPal Giving Fund terms of service here.

Reward will be automatically applied to the next eligible purchase made with PayPal using the Valid Account that qualified for the Reward. Reward will not be visible during checkout, but will be applied in PayPal receipt/transaction details. There is a limit of 1 reward per Valid Account. Only three hundred thousand (300,000) rewards are available; when the cap is reached the offer will no longer be available. Redemptions are final, will not be returned, and are subject to review and verification. Reward may be viewable in the Valid Account within 72 hours after an eligible purchase is made. See full terms and conditions here.
  • Any rewards earned will post to your account no later than 7/31/20 at 11:59pm ET. All steps in the referral process must be completed by 11:59:59 PM ET on 6/30/20. Referees must also verify the cell number linked to their account with PayPal for the referee and referrer to be eligible for their respective rewards. Transactions that have been cancelled, refunded, or reversed by either the referee, referrer, or the seller do not count as eligible transactions. Limit: one (1) reward per referee Valid Account and five (5) rewards (max reward is $50.00 USD) per referrer Valid Account throughout the entire reward period. If two or more referrers invite the same referee, PayPal will credit the reward to the person who sent the $0.01 first, as determined in PayPal’s sole discretion. See full terms and conditions here.

Our Verdict

I always like donating to charity when my donation can be amplified like this. It’s only an extra $5 to the charity but every bit extra counts. Most people already have a PayPal account so the referral bonus isn’t that useful, but it’s better than the $5 bonus sometimes offered. Feel free to share your referrals in the comments below. In terms of the Honey bonus you can get 500 ‘gold’ (worth $10 towards a gift card) when using a referral, so do that first then try to do this PayPal deal. You can use my referral here, appreciate those who use it. Please do not share your referrals below.

William Charles I tried signing up for honey thru your referral. But there is no option to sign up without downloading the extension first. I am afraid if downloading would make me ineligible for the paypal offer which specifically mentions to download the browser for the first time.

“Sign up or log into Honey using your PayPal credentials, download the free browser extension for the first time and spend $10 or more with PayPal & get a $5 bonus”

the paypal referrals work by sending someone a penny. so no referral links for that part of the deal.

Made a donation through the Paypal app and did not seem to get any confirmation that the extra $5 would be added. Did anyone have a different experience?

It seems that the charities for which this works are those who have registered for it. I suspect a lot of small charities aren’t going to bother with it.

You need to make a paypal.me account and use the app to generate a custom link.

Sorry thought you meant for Paypal referral codes. I am kinda confused whether DOC wanted people to post Honey or Paypal referral codes here. Gonna be patient and wait for clarity 🙂

I don’t think there is a PayPal referral link that can be generated. The email I received from PayPal states I need to send a friend 1 penny and have them signup for a new PayPal account.

This is the exact text from PayPal:

Just send 1 cent to a friend who doesn’t have PayPal, and when they sign up, link their bank account or card and spend $5 or more with PayPal by June 30, we’ll send you both ten bucks.

Oh really? So its kinda confusing then. It looks like in India they actually have referral codes for PayPal, and when you google “how to get paypal referral code” it gives you instructions as if you were in India. I kinda assumed it was the same in the US but the app keeps crashing before I can finish following similar steps and I just assumed that its a problem on their end 😛 If you’re right then this must be referring to honey then. Sorry for the incorrect info.
