Our Verdict

The $25 comes off from the purchase; it won’t show on Bestbuy, but will reflect in your Paypal account, according to readers’ reports. Hopefully once you’ve ‘saved’ the offer in your Paypal account that means you are locked into one of the 40,000 available slots.

Best Buy deals are always nice, and this one times well with holiday shopping and Cyber Monday deals. You should be able to use this deal to buy Best Buy gift cards or third party gift cards at Best Buy or Amazon gift cards with store pickup (links in this paragraph are affiliate links) and trigger the $25 offer that way. I’m not sure if any of the discounted gift card deals are still around. (Note: buying a Best Buy e-gift card will not work since it’s routed through Cashstar. Other e-gift card brands would work.)

A friend tells me that using this in conjunction with the Amex Offer did work to to trigger the Amex congrats email; typically these offers do not work to stack with an Amex Offer since, historically, Paypal checkout generally isn’t eligible for the Amex Offer credit, but apparently it does work with the Best Buy Amex Offer, at least. Be sure to spend at least $275, and $250 will charge on your card, and you should then get the $25 from Amex as well. You can also use the Chase Offer for 10% back if you have that one; that should work in conjunction with Paypal as well.

Another option is to use the Chase Freedom card for 5x at Paypal this quarter. Remember to go through a shopping portal or go through Ibotta for 10% back. If there are any other stacks we are missing, please chime in below.

  • In my experience, buying multiple e-gift cards from best buy resulted in separate charges. Will a consecutive transactions of $100, $100, $50 trigger this offer?

    • Successful triggers the offer on 12/11. Got 3x $50 pGC+ 1x $50 eGC (both Disney) and 1x Shell and bundle via ibotta. Hope to get 0.5% cashback too, fingers crossed. It showed $250 at the check-out page, but immediately $25 was applied after placing the order.

  • $275 Amazon GC in store pickup still working to trigger $25 Paypal and $25 Amex offer, 12/8.

    • I haven't bought BB GCs, but for these offers in general: physical BB GCs and physical/digital 3rd party GCs are fine since you'll go through regular BB checkout system (billed and sold by BB directly)

Digital/electronic BB GCs won't work since those take you to Cashstar website for processing (billed and sold by Cashstar)

  • Amazingly Ibotta approved the cash back for me for this even though it says gift cards are excluded.

      • @guest_1295468 @guest_1295505 When did you purchase ?
I used Ibotta too but no sign of cashback yet and today is the 8th day
Per ibottas terms cashback should post by 7 days. I can’t even fight with ibotta on this one !
        :(

        • @guest_1291861 @guest_1291562 Took seven days, purchased 11/29, paid out 12/6. Did you get an email that it tracked to begin with?

          • Ibotta sends an email after tracking ?
            I didn’t get it.
However I took a screenshot of the tracking with shopping ID when I came back to ibotta after completing bestbuy purchase so I never suspected it won’t track. 🙁

  • The AMEX e-mail system seems to be pretty broken as of late. I've been using lots of deals and rarely get an e-mail. I just check the "Savings" tab under offers. Usually a day after the charge goes pending the offer will be moved to "Savings" and disappear from "Added".

For this Best Buy offer, I got no e-mail when using PayPal at Checkout. But the offer was moved to "Savings" a day later.

  • Ordered $275 in Amazon GCs, split over 2 $100 and 3 $25. The 2 $100 didn’t activate for some reason and they were the last 2 in the store so they refunded me $200 and So far no clawback from PayPal. Also no clawback from Amex on the$25 back from Amex offer yet.

  • I ended up having a rather hefty Best Buy purchase on Cyber Monday. I went through the retailmenot portal for 10% up to $30, (got the full $30), and used PayPal for another $25 off. I didn't have the Amex offer so I used the Chase card offer, but it appears the Chase offer didn't track (shows as PAYPAL BEST BUY, not just BEST BUY as merchant). Still thrilled to have saved $55!

  • It worked -- thanks

    $275 Amazon GCs - $25 PP = $250 charged to Amex - $25 Amex = $225 (plus BB reward pts)
