The standard Pepper points will be instantly available and the bonus Pepper points will be awarded on 12/12/24. You can see these deals in your messages tab or notifications tab. Be sure that you should see the bonus reflected on the checkout screen; these deals only last one day and they often sell out early.

The Pepper points system is confusing, so let’s give an example: Let’s say, for example, that Pepper is offering 10x on Amazon. If you buy $100 in Amazon gift cards, you’ll get 8,000 points instantly (4x) which is worth $4 toward your next purchase; that’s 4% back. In a few weeks, you’ll get an additional 12,000 points which is worth $6 and is the same as 6% back. Altogether, you’ll end up with 10x back will is the same as 10% back. It’s easier to just avoid thinking about the points totals and focus on the ‘x’ back since that is the same number as the % back you’ll be getting (1x = 1% back; 10x = 10% back).

You’ll see a tab in the app called ‘Points History’ which will clearly show which points have posted and which points are pending. (Update your app if you don’t see it.)

Our Verdict

Not as exciting deals as we used to see some weeks ago, yet still will be interesting to some people.

Keep in mind that for most of these deals the bonus points won’t be available for a few weeks, and it’s not worth buying unless you can manage the risk of something going wrong with the bonus points posting a few weeks down the line. There have been times when people have had issues logging in; therefore, I’d recommend screenshotting and copying the gift card info immediately. I’d also recommend using up the Pepper points as soon as possible to be safe.

These deals stack well with the AmEx Offer for $15 off $50. Reports are that Amex Business Gold  to earn 4x if it’s one of your top two categories as part of the Computer Software category. And it counts as Computer Software category for BofA Customized Cash Rewards cards for 3%/5.25% and for 1.5x on the Business Platinum card. And reports are that it counts as Online Shopping for BofA cards and Blue Cash card and ShopYourWay card and the legacy Citi AT&T card.

Note: While there is no limit to most of these deals, you might be limited in overall quantities that can be purchased from Pepper in a day. So you might only get $2,000 or some other number until the app stops you. It’s sometimes possible to increase limits by calling in and verifying. And you might be able to buy again the next day as your limits reset.

  • Just signed up for Pepper and AmEx purchases are all getting declined. Getting handed off to safekey, correctly entering safekey, then getting "your bank declined the card for an unknown reason" error. No authorization is actually showing up on the AmEx card so it seems like Pepper is either not attempting to charge the card after the safekey handoff or the safekey handoff is busted.

Is there a workaround for this? Is this unusual or is it normal for Pepper just decline cards randomly?

    • Email Pepper support. My card was flagged for some reason, and contacting them fixed the issue. In the past, I was able to call their customer support. Not sure if they still have that.

    • I have only ever used AMEX w them and only got the safekey prompt on about my 10th order, which was more than $200. It was more than my previous orders. I didn't get the prompt after that, even after placing an order for almost $2k. Maybe you have to start w smaller amts? I'd also just contact AMEX. They're available via chat 24x7.

    • This happened to me when I used an AMEX in my spouse's name on my Pepper account. After many failed attempts, my account did get locked. Until I e-mailed Pepper

    • I've tried 5 different card issuers and Amex is the only one I have been able to get to work. Pretty sure after a card fails authorization it blocks your entire account for a certain amount of time before they actually try to run your cards again

  • These people are strange - when I called in, they asked for some invitation ID which I don't have (nothing listed on the offer page), then they gave me offers even worse than the standard ones... hard pass

  • Out of curiosity, has anyone been able to add the venture x card? It doesn't matter if I use my main card, an AU, or a virtual one, I always get the "your card might have been in a data leak" message.

    • I have four different Capital One cards, 2 personal and 2 business (some newer, some years old).
ALL of them I have never been able to link to Pepper with the same data leak message you got, kept sporadically trying over the last few months.
Would have been a good way to get the monthly $1 small balance waiver on my dormant cap1 cc's through Amazon gcs.
      Oh well...

        • @guest_1958000 I had never tried the virtual card route until now, but just failed with one of my personal Cap1 CC's getting the same data leak message.

Btw, I have a Discover, an Amex and a MC linked successfully, so it looks to be Cap One specific rather then sth related to my Pepper account...

  • Anyone else getting a card decline error after Amex verification? Contacted Amex and they said everything looks fine on their end.

    • iirc pepper wanted the three digit code on the back of the Amex rather than the four digit on the front. Did you try that or vice versa?

      • They do want the three digit code. Entering the three digit code doesn't work though. You can complete safekey verification and Pepper will still insist that the AmEx card failed despite Pepper not attempting to charge AmEx (hence AmEx saying everything looks find on their end).

  • "Not as exciting deals as we used to see some weeks ago".

True, but those deals alls old out in seconds and were all bought up by resellers and bots. Maybe someone at Pepper finally figured out it makes sense to do a smaller boost that is actually available for more than a few seconds.
