Their choice checking account does not have any monthly fees to worry about. There is a $10 early account termination fee if the account is closed within 90 days of account opening.
Our Verdict
Hard pull makes this bonus unattractive, but it might still be worth considering if you can still fund it up to $5,000 and that codes as a purchase instead of a cash advance (using a 2% card would net you another $100 tax free). In my opinion getting a hard pull for $100 tax free and $250 taxed is worth it. Shame that the $250 bonus is so geographically restricted. We will be adding this to our list of the best checking bonuses.

Can still confirm to this date, $5,000 is able to be funded via Visa or Mastercard which can be split between the TruWest Savings and Checking account with a $5 minimum required for the savings account. I had received instant approval online, but was denied the next business day when my application was manually reviewed. The reason for the denial was due to "information contained in my Chexsystems" in the application page, but when I received my Chex report no bad remarks were on there. I concluded that the 8 Chex inquiries I received in the last year were most likely the reason for denial. They also do pull your credit report via Experian once you submit your application, though I was not denied due to that with 7 inquiries in the last year.
There is a $100 bonus + $25 Amazon Gift Card available for December: https://truwest.org/otg100/
The account is age restricted (18-29 yrs). Unfortunately doesn't stack with their referral bonus: https://truwest.org/member-referral/
FYI, can't fund with Amex--only Visa and Mastercard.
Thanks, added this
Vanguard distribution on 6-29-17 triggered my bonus. Bonus received 7-6-17
Barclaycard arrival+ used for funding, posted as purchase. Only visa or mc accepted for funding.
can someone please confirm about the credit card funding status still valid?
thanks!
Yes, but not sure if all majors are accepted. You enter the card number and it populates the type. I used Visa. $4995 checking and $5 typical CU membership savings. Didn't think to enter other card numbers to test funding options before continuing.
Experian pull right away. :(
How do you figure that using a 2% card would net an additional $250 tax free? 2% of $5,000 is $100.
I was thinking 5% for some reason, fixed now. Also I am not very smart.
Incorrect Will - You are very smart :)

Why thank you, seems like a tough job!
Case in point, a very astute comment :)
