When signing up you need to be accompanied by a parent, after that you can go by yourself. Free is free as I like to say.
Is it just for high school students? My kid is 18 in the college. Is he eligible?

Have you ever tried to cancel membership from planet fitness?
Yes, you have to walk inside and fill out a form since they pull funds form your linked bank account. Kinda cumbersome but haven’t had any issues cancelling.
Per their website, there are 4 points of correction/clarification needed: (1) It’s valid through August 31, not the ever-elusive September 31; (2) it’s available for teens through age 19, not 18; (3) only those under 18 need parents’ signature; (4) you don’t need to sign up in person, as there is a link within the FAQs to sign up online.
I identify as a teenager so I should qualify.
Identity is just a social construct so I should also qualify.

Is good that planet fitness let the teens workout and instead of being on the street, corner, they could be at the gym, but that’s not good for those that pay monthly fee and can’t workout because the gym is crowded with teens for free.
