It’s now possible to activate all 5% category credit cards for the second quarter of 2025, including the Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom Flex, Discover IT, Citi Dividend, US Bank Cash+ and some smaller cards. In this post we’ll provide the activation link for each card and links to track your spend, along with strategies to help increase spend in these categories.
Dates: April 1st – June 30, 2025. Store purchases can usually be done until the last minute while online purchases should be given a buffer zone since the charge typically posts on the shipping date.

Chase Freedom – Amazon, Streaming
Activation Link / FAQ / Our original post
With the Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex cards, activate to earn 5% back this quarter on up to $1,500 in spend at Amazon and on Select Streaming Services.
- Amazon – Some people will find this useful. You can also buy third-party gift cards on Amazon (affiliate link), such as Visa, Best Buy, Starbucks, Lowe’s, Safeway and dozens more. (Even someone with a large Amazon gift card balance might find this Chase Freedom category useful for Amazon or third-party gift cards purchases since gift card bought on Amazon can not be paid for with an Amazon balance.)
- Select Streaming Services – we’ll add more details on what’s counted for this category when they become available. While this is, theoretically, a somewhat useful category, most people will find it a pain to switch their payment method for the small gain. (It might be possible to load up your Apple or Google Play balances with this category; let us know if you see anything like this work.)
- June 2025 only: Eligible internet, cable and phone services. These categories will combine with the others toward the $1,500 max. No separate activation is required; just active once for the main categories and you’re good to go.
Tip: Click this link (login required) to check how far you are along the $1,500.

Activation Link / Our original post

You can also buy gift cards at various grocery stores to use at other third-party retailers like Starbucks or Best Buy. Purchases made from Walmart or Target are not eligible. Purchases from convenience stores and discount stores may not qualify.
- Wholesale Clubs – Check with your Wholesale Clubs to make sure your Discover Card is accepted. Purchases of affiliated Wholesale Club services, such as delivery services, travel, and cell phone purchases, may not be eligible in this category. Individual merchants and stand-alone stores within physical Wholesale Club locations, or online, may not be eligible in this category.
Tip: Login, then click this link to see you how far along the $1,500 you are.

If anyone has spend left on the Flex $12k Groceries deal, Whole Foods counts as Amazon and Groceries, so stacks to 14% cash back for me.
Any DP's for using Discover on the Sam's Club website? I wouldn't expect the 5% to work online, but it says that it "may."
Safe CU categories are:
Charity, Hardware Stores, Sporting Goods Stores
Can you add the Huntington Business Voice credit card? It offers 4% cashback, up to $7k per quarter on one the following:

Let's not forget the PayPal debit card. The 5% categories for this month are Fuel,Groceries,Restaurants,and Ridesharing. Just fyi...have a blessed rest of your day!!
Interesting that they took away the Health and Wellness category to replace with Rideshare for this month. I was using the Paypal Debit for my gym membership
US Bank Cash+ has a 5% category for gym membership.
@6,
@guest_2035593 missed the very important "Apparel" category!
Anyone know if Langley FCU ever do SUBs on that card? I see they do 10% in categories for the first 6 months I assume that is like the SUB.
Might have to pick that one up one day.
I don't recommend Langley, they have shorted me cash back since my account is opened. I don't know what computer system they are using, but A LOT of missing and incorrect cash back. Also, they're like Capital One, if you have good credit (800+) and lots of accounts. They will likely deny you. If you really want to get it, sign up and wait for preapproval.
@guest_2035581 & @guest_2023895, I have never seen a sign up bonus for the card, but wasn't looking either. We are near end-game having done this since 2016 and were trying to lock in any obscure cards we could get. Any no AF 5% is good for me right now, and the 10% back worked great for some purchases. We used a Warehouse Club month to get new tires on a car, and another month had Auto Repair, where we got some services done. No cap that I'm aware of so it could be lucrative depending on your spend. The downside is not knowing what categories you'll get until the month starts.
For what it's worth, they also have a HYSA that was paying 5% when we signed up, but is down to 4.11% for last month.
What do you mean by "We are near end-game"?
@guest_2035554,
I was thinking of asking the same thing as @guest_2035581 did when I saw your comment. Any idea?
@2 & @6 , The category choices for Langley FCU for April are: Streaming Services, Groceries, or Home Depot and Lowes.
Added, thx
The bonus category for June 2025 has posted on "cable, internet, and phone services."
https://media.chase.com/news/chase-freedom-2025-q2-categories
Yes, but that offer is pretty useless for those people who also have the Chase Ink Business card which gives 5x all of the time on those categories, as well as at office supply stores.
And DoC already has a page about this:
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/report-chase-freedom-q2-surprise-5x-category-will-be-internet-cable-phone/
I'm not sure about other users, but when I go into my Chase mobile app and desktop site, it gives me the option to activate the quarter but it is blank and doesn't show the categories at all. My family members don't even have the option to activate or the categories listed, which is different than my experience.
Blue line at very bottom to activate.
I am having the same problem. Its just blank. I activated it though. But today the activated part went away. I am not sure why its not showing it. i do know that one part of their website said it was going to be amazon and streaming services. I activated it through that one page where is wants my last name, last 4 digits on card. I'm hoping they add to the categories.
Went to local grocery store (Acme) and all $500 vgc comes with 7.95 fee. I recall them being 5.95 when I last purchased them 2 years ago. Is 7.95 the new normal? NY/NJ area.
@guest_2024082,
Did you miss my comment here from several months ago about this: #1938304? Anyway, most of the S&S stores near me still have the $5.95 variety. They probably had a huge supply and decided not to toss them like Acme apparently did.
I did miss your post. Went to stop shop and they did have 5.95. Thanks!
