Qatar Airways To Switch To Avios From Qmiles

Qatar Airways has announced plans to drop Qmiles and adopt Avios. The change will take place in late March (rumored to be the 22nd). Existing Qmile balances will convert to Avios at a 1:1 rate. Apart from that we don’t know how the specifics will work, but that is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Avios is currently used by British Airways Executive Club, AerClub, Iberia Plus and Vueling Club.

  • Does that mean, I should be able to use my huge pile of Avios on Qatar flights to India (AMD) and don't have to pay rediculous fees/surcharges of British Airways?
    Did anyone tried that?
How many Avios will it cost to use for round trip flights to India on Qatar?

    • Using QMiles, east coast to India was around 80k iirc one way, not sure if redemption values will change with this move though.

  • It's now been confirmed by Qatar Airways Privilege Club that Avios "will be fully transferable between Privilege Club and British Airways Executive Club", this allows travellers on both airlines to pool their Avios into a single account.

In addition, BA and Qatar Airways will increase the number of Avios-based reward seats across their flights, to accomodate an expected jump in demand once both airlines are sharing a common currency'.

      • This is not what I am talking about. For example, I see EWR to BOM in India. But I do not see EWR to AMD or BDQ in India. These were popular routes on Qatar before. Why?

    • It shouldn't because they are still of the same alliance and we can book british airways through AA. But we have to wait and see how they change it

      • For some reason right now when you try to book any flight to from USA to India on the AA Website through Qatar airways it shows "error." Does anyone know why this is happening?
