Recap: Departures Magazine Discontinued, BA Devalued & More

  • I was trying to figure out how to unsubscribe from those super thick magazines, and thought I had somehow done it when I stopped getting them. Good on them to stop wasting paper. I have started getting Departures emails pretty frequently recently though, and I actually read some of them unlike the physical issues... wonder if this is a shift or that will stop too.

  • I always wondered why I got that magazine in the mail for so many years. I just threw it in recycling right away so I can’t imagine they made any money.

  • Departures was effectively discontinued when they stopped printing. Haven’t clicked the “New Issue is here” link once.

I liked the print copy and would read thru it, some of the “articles” were really out of touch (but maybe that’s who the intended audience was), “COVID got you down and stuck watching your kids? Take them to a $5k a night resort and have the staff watch them while you get some much needed rest.” Followed by “The worst thing about COVID is that the $27k purse store is closed and I can’t go buy a bag in person”

I did enjoy the peek at end tables that cost 6 times my monthly rent and genuinely wondered if people actually buy them. That was probably my favorite part of the magazine, the prices. That and the once a year limited edition D&G bag that was only available to 50 Centurion/Platinum card holders, wondered if the Platinum people could actually get one, kind of wanted to buy one and see if it would appreciate.
    Bon Voyage, Departures!!
