Two Valentine’s cards? One for your spouse and one for your side squeeze?
Amendments i have submitted from exactly one year ago still have not been processed. fml.
IRS charges late fees for delayed tax payments made by American citizens and corps, I wonder if late fees for failing to refund money owed to taxpayers are a possibility?
The IRS pays interest on late refunds at a rate of about three percent annually. For most tax refunds issued after April 15, the agency will pay interest when it finally sends the refund. Note you’ll have to pay taxes on the interest.
I’ll pass on overpayment of Federal taxes this year – still waiting on 4k refund from 2020. At least there will be interest included, eventually…
was wondering about this myself. i can’t even quite remember what my overpayment was, but i remember i DID overpay, and dont even know how to check how much i’m owed
It should be listed on your tax return you filed.
You should be able to find it on your personal account on irs.gov. There is a section for payments you have made. Also, if you filed the return and claimed the overpayment as a credit for refund, it will be on the return itself.
If you used the extension form to overpay – you won’t get a refund on time. You have to call.
ROFL. Saw something about the tax delay online yesterday, there was someone crying about it took her 5 months to get her amended return refund filed late last summer. I’m STILL waiting on my amended return filed June 2020. I have a tax advocate on my case and there’s still nothing doin on it (they’ve asked me to send them another copy 4 times now but have made no progress apparently)
I like the message I get checking on my normal return efiled and accepted over 300 days ago that says your return may not process within 21 days and in some cases this work could take up to 90 to 120 days.
How did you get an advocate to accept the case? I mailed in an amendment May-2020 and haven’t heard a peep, and the Advocate says they aren’t allowed to take cases on amended returns.
IDK? I fit the income qualifications, never heard that they couldn’t do amended returns. Wish I could actually talk to someone- I had a process where I talked at someone from IRS but ever since that have never actually communicated live with the person I was assigned to. They call and leave a message (I basically can never pick up phone at work, also it’s just a rando # so I don’t know it’s them), I call back, then no one picks up, rinse, repeat. Every so often I get a letter in the mail saying they need another copy of my tax return by X date. I send it and the whole cycle repeats.
I filed my 2020 taxes on Aug 1 2021, they were never accepted (federally, my state taxes were accepted without issue, I’m in California). I sent in duplicate tax returns on Nov 1 2021, still nothing.
Still waiting on processing of 1040s filed May and Oct of 2021. Getting non-filing notices in the mail, but IRS call center advises to just continue to wait ::shrug::
