Sears Credit cards has a new offer out this morning for new signups $40 statement credit for $50 spend on new accounts. Realize its chumpy (even the prior $150 for 2k MSR wasn’t that great) but the SYWR can be product changed into a TYP earning card. Note that this is a Citi Retail Card Services product and will have a bizarro look & feel to its customer service and web support, compared to mainline Citi or Citicards.

People can google reddit, FT, or DOC for why they might want a Sears TYP card.

My Citi Sears SYW card was automatically converted to a TYP earning card nearly 2 years ago. A family member had the same card and his remains a SYW point card. Will they convert a card upon request? The big bonus point offers on my card have been non-existent since early 2018. In 2017 they were fantastic.

Hi William – I really appreciate the read from you and the link. The lack of MR-earning Amex Offers is certainly disappointing. We’ll continue to be on the lookout for data points and possible strategies. Many thanks!

Sears “loan” is actually bankruptcy financing; it’s pretty normal and routine for companies within a bankruptcy process to obtain financing, especially asset-heavy companies with a ton of inventory / receivables / IP, etc that serve as collateral. Wouldn’t exactly say that this is a way that Sears found to stay alive; basically this isn’t really news

Iceland Air and Wow seemed like a weird combination. Iceland Air’s service is top notch. While everything I have heard about WOW is bad. And by the time you pay for seat assignment and bag fees Iceland Air is actually cheaper.
