Original post: Regal Cinema is going to launch an unlimited movie subscription plan called ‘Regal Unlimited‘. Plans will start at $18 per month plus tax and there are three different tiers.
The tiers are as follows:
- Regal Unlimited: $18 per month. Includes movies at 200 Regal Theatres
- Regal Unlimited Plus: $21 per month. Includes movies at 400 Regal Theatres
- Regal Unlimited All Access: $23.50 per month. Includes movies at all Regal Theatres
It will be live sometime next week. It looks like you can also pay extra to see non standard movies (3D etc) but there aren’t specifics on how much that costs. Booking on the app will cost an extra $0.50 per booking. It also looks like you’ll be charged monthly, but you have to commit to paying for a full year.

Here's an interesting development. Regal often offers 'Movie Bonus' promos, where a certain studio (Lionsgate, Sony, etc.) will have 3-4 movies to watch. If you see one of the movies, you get 500 bonus Regal credits (worth almost nothing). But if you see 2, you get 1000 credits and a small popcorn (worth something like $8 nowadays). If you see all, you get free downloads of all of them when they're released on home video. The current promo is from Sony, featuring the movies MIB International, Spider-Man: Far from Home, and Angry Birds 2.
I assumed, of course, that this would not work with my Unlimited Pass.
However, I went to see Spider-Man: Far from Home (again) yesterday using my pass, and received an email from Regal today saying I've been awarded the extra credits.
I'm hoping this wasn't just an oversight that they'll end up 'fixing,' but hell, I'll go "buy" a ticket for MIB if it allows me a free popcorn, and Angry Birds 2 if it allows me a download of Spider-Man: Far from Home (which I consider quite rewatchable).
It's not an oversight. I did it accidentally and received all four digital movies plus the other perks. This was for a different series of 4 films but I see no reason why they would have changed it.
Wondering if there will be a way to purchase with gift cards? Maybe if it was an annual pass? That could greatly reduce the charge.
A very important bit of info here is you're signing yourself into a 1 year contract. They say you are obligated to pay for at least 1 year and it can be paid monthly or as a lump sum.
I think regal is where I paid $8 for a small popcorn.
I used to go to the movies a lot. Today, I'm not sure I would go to the movies even if it was free.
My guess is that this is one of the deals that sounds good at the outset but really wrinkles for most people.
How many movies are really worth seeing in theaters? Considering the travel time, travel cost, seating time and preview time, how many are really worth the premium over just streaming/torrenting the Blu-ray in a few months?
How many hours a month do you really have to devote to seeing movies, including all this theater-overhead time? I don't think I'd come up with more than 4 movies a month if I TRIED, which is to say that I'd be getting less value than the regular ticket price to see them.
AMC A-List is a better deal than this.. just 3 month commitment.. even though it has geographical plans.. NO SURCHARGE
According to the rules, there is not just only premium format surcharge, but also premium seating surcharge. Also you need to pay convenience fee when buying tickets, which will not be refunded if you cancel the tickets. I think I will stick to AMC A-list.
Was anxiously awaiting this as I only have a Regal near me but turns out its tier 3. Why am I going to pay an extra $5 a month for no extra benefit over the normal plan + $.50 a pop to book? At least throw in IMAX/3D....thanks but no thanks
Which one is the normal plan? The one that includes 200 theaters, or the one that includes all ~550 theaters? In my opinion, there's no sense in dismissing the expensive plan simply becuase it's more expensive than the cheap plan which literally isn't an option for you.
The normal plan is the 200 theater one. The theater count is a fake constraint that they put to justify higher pricing. AMC lets you pay more and get more but you can do it anywhere. I'm not getting more with the expensive regal plan, I'm just paying for it to work at all
Oh, also a one-year minimum membership is ABSURD. (A-list is 3 months.) I get it, they will lose money on people who pick up a membership for just, like, July and November, but one year? Is this a shady health club?
Regular 2D movies at the third-tier theater closest to me are $17.90 (incl. tax), plus I *think* there's no convenience fee for online purchases for Crown Club members (could be wrong about that, though). So with Regal Unlimited you're starting out at $24 (incl. service fee) plus tax...more than $6 in the hole. *And* you have to pay extra for any premium format (unlike A-list, last I checked). So it's not too appealing a deal. Sure, all of these plans anticipate paying a little more than the cost of a ticket a month, but 33% more?
I'm disappointed because I live close to one and it would be handy.

Do you know if it's unlimited, as in unlimited per day, or just one a day, up to every day?
An employee I know said you can watch multiple movies per day, but there has to be 90 minutes between, I want to say start times(?), but might be between on ending an another starting. Also might eliminate need to go to box office or kiosk, as they can scan at entrance, like if you bought through atom or fandango.
Looking over their FAQ, it definitely seems to be unlimited per day, with a few exceptions. You can only hold a maximum of 3 reservations at one time and any movie showtimes cannot conflict with the showtime of another reservation or purchased ticket.
