RoomiPay: Pay Your Rent With A Credit Card, Now 3%

Update 3/13/18: They actually opened on the 13th. Not sure why they said it would be the 15th. Either way it’s always super difficult to be one of the first 50.

Update 3/13/18: Looks like they’ll be opening officially on March 15th, but it’s showing a fee of 3% which means Plastiq is cheaper. There is a promo this month where the first 50 users will get a 0% fee. Try being up at midnight on the 15th and see if you can get in on the 0% fee offer. (HT r/churning)

Update 02/21/18: They charging 2.5% and $30 shipping fee now

Update 02/13/18: Deal is back. You must use this link. Thanks to MilesTalk for providing it. Update now 2% again. Sign up for instant notifications so you don’t miss another deal again.

Update 02/13/18: Free again, won’t last goodluck! Free period has now ended, it’s now 2%.

Update 2 January 16th, 2018: Despite it saying the fee is 2.5%, only 2% is being charged.

Update January 16th, 2018: Earlier this morning the form returned with no fee. I missed that, but it’s back again with a 2.5% fee. Hat tip to Miles Talk.

Update: December 21st. Dead again even with the 2% fee. Looks like they are also restricting people to one payment.

Update December 20th: They are now accepting more payments again, this time with a 2% fee. Keep in mind that this has been coded as 3x on Citi AT&T Access More for some people so might be worth it in that regard or for meeting minimum spend requirements.

Welp, that didn’t last long:

  • Hello! Thanks for your interest in RoomiPay. This feature is still in beta so unfortunately we have already reached our maximum number of participants for this month. Please try again next month as we’ll be expanding the RoomiPay program each month! Cheers, The Roomi Team

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • RoomiPay is offering the ability to pay your rent with a credit card with no fee.

The Fine Print

  • Rent must be paid by December 20th in order to be paid by the 1st of the month.

Our Verdict

I have no experience with Roomi at all, they seem to be a roommate listing market place that also offers the ability to pay your rent via their RoomiPay service. It looks like they are currently charging no fee when paying with a credit card and you can pay landlords not using Roomi as well. I have no idea how reliable Roomi is or how it codes. They have raised almost $17 million, so it should be relatively safe to use the service but YMMV as always. This is a path that RadPad went down as well and it didn’t end particularly well for them. Other options for paying rent with a debit or credit card can be found here (although most likely needs a significant update)

Obviously no credit card fees isn’t sustainable, so we will see how long this one lasts.

  • DP: I haven't get the rewards for referral and I don't have a Rommi account.

Do you need to have a Roomi account to receive the reward? Also, do your friend need one?

  • Finally snagged a 0% today. Didn't really auto-fill much but I did get all information including landlord routing/account number ready on the side in a text editor.

    • Did the same however it wasn't good enough. Errored out at the end on the public link. Those 50 slots went super fast.

  • wow can never get the 0%, probably have to be fully automated to be fast enough without checking for errors

  • Does anyone know if you can do this each month? Meaning, if i am one of the first 50 each month, will it let me send with 0% (or whatever discounted rate it is)? Or is that only for the first time?

  • March offer opened and maxed out. Got this at 4:04 ET

    • FYI, since the general public gets 50 free and we do an extra 50 free, there are actually 100 "free" spots each month. At least for the foreseeable future...

      • What are you talking about? There’s only 50 0% fee spots each month - who do you think gets an “extra 50 free” spots??

Edit: Ah, I see, you’re trying to solicit your own site (that I’ve never heard of) which is probably a scam. Nice.

        • Not necessarily. I think Doc allows cross-posting with other blogs and the above does not appear to be a scam to me - if you click on his name it takes to his site, yes, but its clearly explained there how things work. While they likely will get paid if you use their link, it is worth a try if the public 50 free spots are gone and you want to make a payment for free.

  • WOW...that moved quickly!

Got an email at 4:04 saying it was opening at 4:06. Saw it at 4:08, i was not prepared. moved quickly. went through each page. Used my real info, used the property my SO owns as my landlord, used Amex card, charged 2450 (was afraid of doing more, but wish i had). It said it was going to charge my card that exact amount, (meaning no fees), so i "submitted".

Then i got an email saying it was successful and they will let me know when my landlord cashes my check.

Checked my Amex card, Showing as pending, 2450, under "roomiapp.com".

    Fingers crossed!

    • dammit, first time I saw 0%, but it died while checking out

      Terms are
First 50 users to sign up at 0% fee
First 150 users to sign-ups at 2% fee
      First 100 users to sign-up at 2.5%.
3% fee remains open until the program officially closes on March 22nd.

  • @will

Seems like I am late to the miles earning party or probably not.

I recently came across Cirtru Pay and surprisingly they are charging 0% Fees (sounds too good to be true) though I found my roommate via Cirtru; but we have not tried using Cirtru Pay. Have you heard about them? Is Cirtru Pay legit? And how come they are doing at 0% fees? Wont they be paying something to someone who processes such payments?

    Thanks,
    Lisa

      • Chuck, you got Google corrected :) Correct link is https://www.cirtru.com/

Looks like a platform similar to Zillow; however, people can list their properties for free. Then, tenants can pay via credit card for free.

        • Edit / Update: Payments are processed through Stripe. Keep in mind that Stripe will file a 1099 if you process more than $20K in transactions. I for one do NOT want to have to explain to the IRS why these funds aren't taxable.
