Update: Now officially added.
According to reddit user MidnightAlchemist the American Express personal platinum card will be adding new benefits in October. The benefits are rumored to be:
- SIXT (car rental)
- Walmart+
- SoulCycle
Looks like SIXT might be status based and the others are some form of statement credit. SoulCycle is owned by Equinox and American Express did have a partnership with SoulCycle in the past as well. For a premium travel card the American Express Platinum card is starting to resemble a coupon book.

Walmart+ benefit is showing under benefits but clicking doesn't do anything.

no announcement yet. I guess it's just rumor
Wonder if this rumor will turn out to be true and if so when will they announce it?
More coupon book benefits that are 100% useless. Amex will will see mass cancellations when AFs come due.
They will offer more $50 credits at home depot and best buy, retention bonuses. Larger SUB, raise AF, find higher breakage credits, rinse, repeat.
Wow, I'm nearly surprised at the outrage here, hopefully not a sign of things to come at DoC. Honestly, I'd rather them try to add 10k in benefits that might have YMMV avg value of 1.3k than a highly valuable $700 in benefits. Because I'd prefer to get good profit if I fit.
Nothing wrong with Walmart+, unless you're worried that you're card status gets diluted when Bob in the purchasing department gets the card too and previously you felt even more elite relative to him.
...honestly, the biggest worry is that they do add to many niche benefits then maybe the lounges will get more crowded. That can be real and a reason to worry, if not, just hope they continue to add 5 benefits a quarter and maybe 1 will be usable by you. Would you rather get absolutely nothing each quarter??? /shocked.
Outrage will always be in vogue, so you should never be nearly surprised.
Amex Plat has been sliding slowly into irrelevance for several years now, but it was also never meant to be a one-size-fits-all card.
You may want 20 new "out of left field" benefits per year, but as July 2021 taught us, it doesn't come free. How many quarters or years, until it is too many to remember, or too expensive of a card?
Nothing says "exclusive world class jet setting amex platinum card" like adding shopping at Walmart.
I don’t mind the add-ons, I already get value from the base offerings. I do wish i’d they are going to keep doing this carnival of prizes approach that they would have a better way to see it and track it. I’m using a spreadsheet to keep track of offers, when they are available, expire, if I have used one. It’s almost like a scavenger Hunt. lol
I used my card to rent at Sixt recently. I declined the Sixt car insurance but was charged 24 by Amex for insurance. I didn't ask for the insurance to my recollection and assumed it was included. I have a platinum card. Did I miss something ?
Right, you can turn off your premium car rental coverage. My experience with sixt was horrible, would never rent from them again. It was in Europe and got hustled, car not available, upsold. Customer service is terrible.
That’s the Amex premium car insurance, which only charges if you signed up for the program. You can call them to find out more 1 (800) 338-1670
