The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Safeway is offering 4x points on qualifying giftcard purchases until 4/7/24

Our Verdict

It doesn’t state what qualifying gift card purchases are unfortunately. 4x points is worth 10% back on groceries so could be a great deal for some.

  • The last few times I've attempted to get the 10x points promo for various targeted GCs, it hasn't come to fruition at checkout and I've had to waste way too much time dealing with phone reps to get credited. Similar experience with recent Fry's GC promos. It's gotten to the point where I won't even bother with these anymore.

    • Are you clipping in store and then buying with your number? I've found that doesn't work well. I usually clip long before I go.

      • Yes, the offers are clipped before checkout, but only when I first get to the store. I used to have an issue with the very last offer I clipped not taking at the checkout regardless of what the deal was, such that I clipped any random coupon last that I knew I wouldn't be utilizing so I wouldn't have that problem anymore.

    • Interesting, I don’t think I’ve had an issue with the 10x promos (are you clipping the offer and getting the exact cards being offered?)

  • Sharing my data point. I did this deal yesterday with both 10x and 4x weekend coupons clipped. Bought 2 Zillions gift cards from the promo several hours apart. Both times, I received only 8x points instead of 12x. Fighting over with the CS was a nightmare with dozens of reps. The amount of time I wasted was certainly not worth, not to mention they still didn't provide all the missing points.

I'd avoid this deal until they fix the glitch

  • Some Safeway's don't sell gift cards during the witching hours (which they define as being between 11pm and 6am). There are no signs indicating such because you should just know this. At 545am you'll find a cashier who will ring up the gift cards for you and then after the transaction is complete half remember something from training about gifts cards and limits. It will be explained by comparing gift cards sale to the alcohol sales laws. The computer's are confused and will charge you for the price of the gift cards anyway, even if they will not activate the cards. Afterwards you will go home, pull into your garage, and close your garage. With the car still running you will inhale deeply and prepare to die.

    • I'm jealous that you have 24 hour stores. We lost all of them during the pandemic and haven't returned.

  • Stack with the 10x Zillions card deal for a total of 12x (it's not 14x because the systems does not double-count the baseline 2x on gift cards). https://gcgalore.com/safeway-albertsons-earn-10x-points-on-50-select-gift-cards-zillions-playstation-store-gap/

Zillions is a multistore swap card that has lots of high value brands like EBay, Home Depot, Lowes, AirBnB etc. List here: https://gcgalore.com/incomm-launches-zillions-gift-cards-their-multi-brand-version-of-one4all-gift-cards/

          • From my experience, there is no issue. I've been buying hundreds worth of these when they get the 10x promo. Stack that with a credit card that's high earning for groceries and you will be hard-pressed to get a better gift card deal elsewhere on some of the included merchants. I'm doing some home remodeling, so the bulk of my redemptions have been going to Lowe's and Home Depot, but there are other options I’ve taken advantage of occasionally (e.g., Doordash, Uber, Chipotle, Subway, Spotify…). I’ve never had a redemption where the e-card wasn’t received instantly.

          • Read the reviews, apparently they are dropping the most attractive redemption partners as time goes on, the site is glitchy (no surprise from incomm), and the redemption is far from instant and for some people does not work at all, as in the GCs are lost in mail with terrible customer support.

          • Just to provide a counter DP, I have not had any issues and my redemptions have been instant -- but that obviously does not negate the fact that others have had problems.

  • PSA: Among the various multi-store cards, there's a new one. The packaging looks a little different but it's collocated with the others and it credits the same when there's a bonus. This new card has well over 100 stores . . . including stores I have wanted -- excuse me, that my wife has wanted -- for forever. Ha. Periodically, these multi-store cards come in at 10X. Keep your eyes peeled.

There are two flavors to this new card. One is variable value and one is $100 fixed. The $100 fixed gives an extra 5 percent ($105 total) of store credit.
