  • I just got an amex platinum which gives 9x grocery store purchases for the first 6 months. Do they look at L2 credit card data from safeway and exclude gift card purchases?

    • Doesn't matter if it's L2 or L3 data. Amex will clawback when they feel like you've pushed things too far, read about what happened last summer. Having said that, they don't appear to have clawed back 10x Platinum for anyone yet so YMMV.

    • Like 86, my Amex statement reads, "OfficeMax/Depot: $200 Visa Meta, Staples: $100 Amazon, & Safeway: $50". With a variety of things sold at Safeway, I imagine there'd be some pushback against detailed reporting, "Safeway: $100 Chipotle + $25 Topical Antifungal Cream for Genital Jock Itch".

    • Last I heard, Safeway has the capacity to send Amex L3 data, Kroger doesn't. Having said that, on my Amex, I'll see details online (under "additional information") for what I bought at an office supply store. I have yet to see details for anything I bought at a Safeway store on that same card.
