Our Verdict

Fairly regular deal and a nice way to get some grocery store spend. Remember to save the offer first and also use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases (including the Chase Freedom this quarter). You might get fuel points on Visa/MC gift cards or might not. In the past, this has not worked on variable load cards.

  • As expected, the offer is no longer available to add as of 05/08, while the promo is still going until 05/14. Make sure to add them to your J4U accounts one week before the promo ends at the latest!!

  • No rewards points at Safeway this time around, not part of the offer or they fixed the glitch which I didn't even want to bring up previously. Great deal last time with cards sold below value, discover card 5% cash back, and reward points earned in April across multiple cards for free stuff I'm still cashing in.

  • it seems they stop offering $10 off on variable amount VGCs. all good things come to an end

    • Variables are where most of the in-store fraud is, at least that's what I was told at a Safeway store near me that had to stop accepting every payment type but cash for GCs.

      • YMMV on that. All my local Safeway stores allow CC payment for variables, no issues.

  • Didn't see this coupon on my on my phone app, but it was there when I logged in a computer.

    It expires 5/14.

      • You don't need to refresh the app, just pull down on the list of coupons. The stupid app does not automatically reload them when you open it.
