Our Verdict

Always a good idea to save the offers as soon as possible as they can’t always be saved up until the deadline. These don’t earn fuel points, as always make sure to use a card that earns at a high rate on grocery store purchases.

  • @will @chucksithe this is back at Safeway, both coupons are avail and good through Apr 10

  • I was waiting for the deal to come up. Hoping it is for Visa card( I can use at Costco), but hey, Master is better than nothing.

    • You CAN use these MasterCards gift cards at Costco because they accept ATM/PIN Debit cards in store. Just create a PIN for the card (see instructions on their website or call the phone number listed on the card). Then at Costco when you swipe the card the terminal will prompt you to enter a PIN to proceed with the purchase.

    • @guest_1091689 FYI, if you really want to use them at Costco, you can use them to order Costco gift cards from Costco.com.

      • Ohh good idea. I normally don't go through that process, but I am mostly shopping in Costco these days so it is great to be able to use all my Master GC

  • Wish they would have a deal on variables or go back to $15 off $100 instead of 2x100. Been a couple months since they did that.

  • anyone know if Safeway still allows to drain the GC automatically? In other words, can we pay via multiple GCs when buying MGC? Thanks.

  • Will see next time I'm in Safeway if the'll let me pay with my $500 VGC to reduce my upfront cost as I spend my smallish stack down.

  • What do people usual do with these Visa/MC GC deals? Other than manufactured spend to satisfy an account opening bonus requirement, I can't see how $3($15-activation fees) for $200 of GC is worthwhile, and many are even just fee-free purchases. Is it just for the 5% grocery category bonus on some credit cards, or what am I missing? The few times I did it, it took me a long time to use the GCs, and you never want to use them at places who put a funds 'hold' (like gas stations or restaurants) because the holds lock up those funds(even when unused) for like 2 weeks!

    • I've been using these to help cash out Chase UR points on my CSR. There is a 3% bonus in this category up to $1,000 and I use these for organic spend mostly - just drained a stack of $50's and $100's at Costco to buy new tires.

    • Other than restaurants, I'll use them for other organic stuff. When they get small, they get autodrained at grocery.
