Sam’s Club Now Selling Variable Load Vanilla Visa Giftcards ($20-$500)

Some Sam’s Club stores are now stocking variable load Vanilla Visa gift cards. These can be funded with up to $500 and the fee is $4.88. Cards with rotating 5% categories often have wholesale clubs as an option and several do until the end of June so this is good to see.

  • Anyone know if these are safe to use for MOs at Kroger? I think that any vanillas stopped working at WM years ago above $49/swipe. Wondering if that limitation exists at Kroger also.

  • Yep this was a great find. I maxed my Disc 5% with these. Anyone know if Costco has variable load Vanilla visa as well?

  • That’s great, BJ’s often OOS during wholesales quarters. Now I have 2nd option within 10 mins driving distance.

  • Be very careful with Blackhawk reloadables - bought one at Safeway and loaded $500. After one use, someone bought Google Play gift cards - in different denominations, wiping out $385. They must have opened and reattached the sticky paper on the back. I did not notice that the cashier at Safeway had a hard time opening the paper hiding the numbers. I have bought a lot of these in the past.

I contacted Blackhawk right away after going to Costco and it only showed $2 and some change on the card. Blackhawk, which you will be on hold for a while for each call, said they were able to resolve it a week later and will send me a new card. A month + later and I'm making another call today (5th) to find out where that card is. I would never buy another one again.

  • Do they share L3 data with Amex? Would use to reach SUB on new Amex Marriott business card if not.

    • Normally if you don’t abuse it like buy $10k in a weekend should not be too big of a problem, just play it safe and don’t buy to much

      • Are you suggesting that it’s ok to buy visa gift cards at OM/staples using an Amex to reach your SUB if you don’t go crazy on it OR only saying that it’s ok to buy at Sams club?

        • Ok to buy at Sam's. Try to mix in some regular purchases with the VGCs and don't buy too much.
