Anything in the Happy line works for this promo, with the exception of Happy Guy.

The Fine Print

Our Verdict

Don’t use Amex for payment, other cards should be fine.

    • @guest_906905 Yes. Simon’s guest services are a mess. I visited three Simon malls today to try to take advantage of the Happy card promo. At one, the POS system was down and they could not sell any cards; the second was out of Happy cards and the bonus Visa cards; at the third, guest services was closed all day even though they were supposed to be open.

  • Alternatively for those in the area, this week safeway (presumably all j4u) has 10% off $100+ of Happy Cards.

And also $10 off $100+ of VGC started today.

    • If you have a Safeway or affiliate nearby, I would do that instead. No problems with using Amex and you will also earn gas/grocery rewards on the purchase and it can be up to $500, so it would be easier to make your purchase with 1 swipe rather than multiple swipes with smaller denomination. You have a week to do it at Safeway up to Nov 2. If you have a grocery reward category credit card, then even better.

    • @guest_795411 I assume pointing out that their own ad says five transactions per day got you nowhere?

          • BBB Buy Happy card for $105,95 and use it to buy Visa for $100 + $5.95 Purchase Fee. Either that or I use it to buy Gas Station Gift cards from BBB.

        • For me, the biggest issue has been that my location keeps running out of the MCGC blanks, so I can't buy any more Happies until they restock.

          • That’s awful! Where are you located? Mine constantly has to be going from guest services to office to restock. Total pain!

          • @guest_796321 You have a few too many with 10 locations, not counting those in central and northern California. Other areas, such as the entire states of Arizona, Colorado, and Missouri, only get 3.

      • Thanks. Called and confirmed. Seems the two nearby locations carry the promotion. Which card is better to liquidate then? Sorry. I am pretty new to Happy Line cards.

      • Oh, ok. But Amex can still be used to buy Visa gift cards (from Staples) for MS- right?

        • Since Staples provides Level 3 data to AMEX, they will know you are buying a gift card. So far, I don't think there are any DPs of Staples not earning regular ongoing spend points on AMEX cards. But DO NOT try to meet an AMEX minimum spend requirement by buying gift cards at Staples, it will end badly. They will claw back your bonus and it will then be too late to meet the spend in other ways since your time window will have passed. Don't do it. Even with regular spend- there is always a chance that will change and even that won't earn points, since they do have the ability to see it's a gift card.

As for Simon- even regular spend points aren't being awarded.

        • Can, but if done in excess the Amex RAT (Rewards Abuse Team) Squad will shut you down.

Staples works because they sell items other than gift cards. A transaction reading Simon Mall means Gift card purchases.

          • No, for Staples this won't work even though they sell other items. As I mentioned above, Staples provides Level 3 data to AMEX so they know what you bought. You can see this info yourself too- click on the purchase in your AMEX login, and in the description it will say "200 Visa card" or something like that. It may work for regular spend but NOT for minimum spend requirement.

    • HD likely complained to BlackHawk and threatened to remove themselves as a partner. I have noticed every HD I have been to has removed $200 VGC’s since the Happy Promos started coming around last November.

Bed Bath and Beyond still sells $25, $50, $100 and $200 VGC’s which can be purchased with Happy Lady Cards.

      • BBB are now very pick on "happy card‘ .If you buy ANY gift card, they are going to see the card you are using and blame you “using gift card buying gift card”

        • That was my experience last time I tried BBB. My goto store that had always worked before wouldn't let me do it. Fortunately, the BBB across town let me. Right after that, Happy started saying that happy cards can't be used to buy gift cards. Haven't bought any since.

        • It took me checking 5 locations in person to find the one within a 30 mile radius that sells them, the other 4 only had BBB, Spa Finder and ITunes.

          • Similar findings in my area. Two out of six stores actually stock them. One is continually sold out and the other usually asks to see what card you are paying with and shoots down Happy GCs when attempting to buy any other GC.

    • I will still not be happy after purchasing the Happy Gift Card. So, I have decided to not buy those cards.
