[Extended Indefinitely] Simon Mall Will Sell $1,000 Visa Gift Cards With $3.95 Activation Fee

Update 3/11/20: Some locations are out of stock currently. This is a supply issue and Simon Mall are not discontinuing this cards currently. Supply is expected to return by late April early May. Hat tip to FM

Update 12/26/19: This has now been extended indefinitely. Hat tip to FM

Update 10/22/19: This has been extended until December 31st, 2019. Hat tip to FM

[Update 8/21/19: Reader JuicyJosh and reader Matt report that Simon Corporate just sent out a blast to customers that they’ve decided to extend this through October 31. (I see now Frequentmiler reporting the same.)]

[Update 8/1/19: Frequentmiler reports this has been extended through August 31. I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes a long-term thing.]

Simon Mall regulars are being informed by their Simon contact that $1,000 Visa gift cards will be available from July 17th through August 4th. Activation fee will be the standard $3.95 per card. It appears this will be an in-store deal for purchase at physical Simon locations.

These gift cards will be available to all consumers (ht reader Mickeymouse). Just tell them you want to purchase the $1k card for manufacture spend purposes, and they should let you purchase up to $10,000 worth. (Limits go up to $25k for regular volume buyers.)

We wrote last month of a rumor that Simon would begin selling $1,000 Visa gift cards online to churners. Not clear if this temporary offer is what was being rumored there. (That rumor referenced an online offer while this deal seems like it’s for in-mall purchase.) Likely, Simon is exploring the idea of making $1k gift cards more widely available, and offering this temporary offer to get more data on how it’ll pan out.

Update, Note: Multiple data points indicate that Amex no longer issues points for Simon Mall gift card purchases (1, 2). Certainly don’t use Simon to meet a minimum spend on an Amex card. Also, do not hide that you are Manufactured Spending, it’ll only make things more difficult. They know about it and are okay with it.

  • My store ran out of stock a few days ago so they substituted it with two $500 card and one fee. Today was told that this fee waiver will end starting tomorrow Fri until the $1000 is restocked. Did this happen to anybody else? Can I go to other stores to purchase them if they are still in stock?

  • What does Simon Mall code as? What's the best card to use for churning here? The closest one to us is over an hour a way and I want to make sure it is worth it.

      • Charles is correct - I'm not sure what their MCC is, but it's not bonus spend anywhere. Back in the day it was 3x on a Chase Ink Preferred, but those days are long gone.

  • Was going through this thread and see that these VGCs can be loaded to BB/serve at walmart. So can we load an entire 1000$ at one swipe on serve/BB at walmart or is 2 transactions of 500$ each that you have to do to liquidate the 1000$ card from Simon mall. Also do you have to set the pin upfront or like staples GCs u can use the last 4 digits of the card ?

    thanks in advance

    • my own experience:

      - I've done up to $995 single loads before (so pretty sure 1k should work too).

      - I always set a pin upfront (phone system takes about 2:40min per card).

My whole 'system' is designed to minimize any possible problems with any load or MO (beneficial at my go-to WM for various reasons), so I just stick to what's been consistently working.
May not be optimal though, so ymmv... :)

  • Non-MSer questions. Is there a *minimum* gift card denomination sold at Simon? Is there any red-tape for cash payment - club to join, or form to fill out, or ID scan, etc.? Thanks.
