Singapore Airlines & Marriott Expand Partnership, Transfer Between Programs

Singapore Airlines has sent out an e-mail to loyalty members stating that they have expanded their partnership with Marriott and it’s now possible to transfer miles and points between the programs at the following rates:

  • You can convert three Marriott points into one Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer mile
  • You can convert two Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles into one Marriott point

I can’t see this being useful for most people due to the poor transfer rates but there might be some limited use cases.

  • LOL! "Convert 2 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles into 1 Marriott BONVOYED point"! I would rather convert to Zimbabwe currency than Marriott Bonvoyed points (they don't value "Loyalty" at all and never fails to disappoint)!

  • This same, two-way, exchange also works with Korean Air and Cathay Pacific. I'm considering it because I have miles with both but rarely fly them.

  • Public Service Announcement

Some might have transferred points to Singapore just prior to the pandemic in anticipation of a (pandemic-canceled) trip and have not had an opportunity to redeem those points since. Singapore has announced that it has made the final extension and points will begin to expire in September of this year (I think). This transfer option provides an escape hatch, if only a limited one. But, it's better than nothing.

    • Am in this boat. I transferred 160K UR, sometime in 2020, I think. These would have expired this month. Think with this extension, will expire in July 2023. Got no plans to use them - might take the 80K marriott points.

      • same and took 80k Marriot points.
Book Marriott hotels up to 355 days in advance.
each 12mo need activity on Marriot BONVOY acct.
although the mo thing might mean closer to 12.99 months requires activity
because if you expire on a first day of the year, be sure to book by the end of that month
the next year. *ahem* i got it in in just under the knick of days but who is counting. all that Math you knowleave that to the other Math guy.
booked a local hotel for 16k points by the toll free phone number.

speaking of not worth the conversion, Bonvy app , just saying. cust service rep acknowledged as did local hotel staff yeah just don't bother the app is glitchy and epic fail.

        in Singapore, Singapore.
serious don't chew gum. don't bring it into Singapore. no joke. serious.
don't get it in the dutyfree area.
no.other gum chewers that polluted their chewed gum ruined it. when there was real sugar in gum. and the chew actualy lasted more than a minute. you will lose a lot more than 1:3 conversion rate if your bag has a pack of gum, not a typo I said chewing gum. make sure you start packing with an empty bag.

safer to just UR to Marriot or another hotel.

  • How far things have fallen compared to the old SPG transfer rates, which would be 1 point = 1.25 Singapore Air miles when accounting for the 5k bonus on 20k transfer.

    • It's not really fallen when you factor in earn rates. With the old SPG card, you either earned 1X on every purchase or slightly higher only if you had purchases at SPG specifically.

Now you have multiple different ways to get bonuses Marriott spend, such as 5X with Ink cards.

      • I hear you, was pointing out the current setup is 1 point = 0.33 Singapore Air miles, so a -73% loss compared to old SPG rates. Maybe the higher earning opportunities off sets this, but would need 3-4 points per $1 purchase to do so. The 5x on Ink Cash on telco/office supply would work, along with 3x on Ink Preferred and CSR categories. It does turn into a categories chase which can work for some.

        • When Marriott bought SPG, SPG credited at 3->1 Marriott. This difference is effectively only from 1.25:1 to 1:1, nowhere near what you are claiming.

          • Yes, that's what I said when I stated "The 5x on Ink Cash on telco/office supply would work" as you get 5x UR per $1 spend on the category, and the UR can be transferred to Marriott.

          • You can directly transfer UR to SQ. You do not need to use Marriott, that is a terrible redemption.
